Early life

Tozer was born in a small farming community in western La Jose, Pennsylvania. While driving home from work as a child in Akron, Ohio, he overheard a street preacher's words: "If you don't know how to be saved, be merciful to me a sinner." He climbed into the attic and heeded the preacher's instructions when returning home.

Personal life

Tozer had seven children, six sons, and a daughter. Ada Cecelia Pfautz, a husband and his partner, never owned a car, preferring bus and train travel. And after being a well-known Christian writer, Tozer gave a large portion of his royal estate to those in need.

"He had the ability to make his listeners laugh in the glare of what God was saying to them," Snyder writes.
