However, critics have questioned the findings, arguing that there are no signs that the decrease in deaths after MUP was brought in specifically by the policy. MUP was introduced in Scotland in May 2018 and the price of the cheapest, best booze, such as high strength lager and cider, was raised to a minimum of 50p a unit, aimed at reducing consumption among the country's heavy drinkers.
