Aaron Lennon Career

Club career

Lennon was a pupil at Leeds University in 2001. When he signed up with Adidas at the age of 14, he set a record as the youngest player to have his boots sponsored. He began his playing career at Leeds United, where he became the youngest player to play in the Premier League at the age of 16 years and 129 days, coming off the bench against Tottenham Hotspur in a 2–1 loss in August 2003.

During a 3–2 win over Leeds on December 26, Lennon scored his only goal against Sunderland. Lennon had been playing from the bench until that time, but he took his chance when John Oster was booted for poor conduct, turning him into a regular starter from then on. Leeds fans were raving over his pace and skills on the wing, and he was one of the premier performers in Leeds' inaugural season in the Championship under Kevin Blackwell's guidance, with his appearances receiving rave reviews.

In Lucas Radebe's testimonial, he was playing and scoring. Lennon was sold to Spurs for a substantial discount, but with a sell-on clause built into the agreement, Leeds' financial difficulties.

Lennon made a £1 million move to Tottenham Hotspur on June 15, 2005, despite Leeds' financial difficulties. In a 2–0 home loss to Chelsea on August 27, 2005, his Spurs debut came a few months later. Lennon scored his first Premier League goal in Tottenham's 2–0 victory over Birmingham City at St Andrew's on March 18, 2006.

He was nominated by fellow players for both the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, but losing to Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, respectively. On January 8, 2007, Lennon agreed to a new five-and-a-half-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur.

Lennon was awarded his first major league honour on February 24, 2008, as Tottenham came from a goal down to beat Chelsea 2–1 after extra time at Wembley Stadium.

In March 2009, a new one was signed, limiting him to Spurs until 2014. Lennon was named as the Tottenham Fans' Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season for the third year in a row, this time losing out to Ashley Young. He played in 47 games in all competitions and scored five goals, including a late equalizer in a tense North London derby that ended 4–4 and was manager Harry Redknapp's first match in charge. Spurs finished eighth in the league and qualified for the 2009 League Cup Final, where they lost on penalties to Manchester United after a goalless draw at Wembley Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur's goals, which included victories against West Ham United and Birmingham City, maintained their unbeaten record in the league table early in the 2010–61 season. Lennon was hospitalized in a match against Stoke City on October 24, 2009. Tottenham were then limited to ten men as a result of manager Harry Redknapp's use of all three available substitutes and the team was expected to lose the match 1–0. He returned on November 22nd in a 9–1 victory over Wigan Athletic, who had three assists and scored one goal. He was named in the 79th minute by David Bentley, who received a standing ovation from the fans at White Hart Lane.

Lennon sustained a groin injury in December 2009, keeping him out of the team during the first months of 2010 and the 2010 World Cup. In a 3–1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford on April 24, 2010, he came back from injury and played as a second-half substitute.

After a long ball of Benoît Assou-Ekotto, he scored a last minute winner in a 2–1 victory over Liverpool at White Hart Lane on Saturday. In a 1–0 victory over A.C. Milan in the Round of 16 of the Champions League on Sunday, Lennon went on a blistering run as Tottenham counter-attacked and then gave Peter Crouch a flawless pass.

In a UEFA Europa League play-off tie, Lennon scored 5–0 against Hearts on August 18, 2011. Craven Cottage scored his first league goal of the season against Fulham. In a 3–0 victory over Bolton at White Hart Lane in December, he scored his second goal of the season. In a 2–0 home win over Everton on January 11, 2012, he scored his next goal.

He signed a four-year contract with the club on September 1, 2012, extending his stay at the club until 2016. Following that, he was appointed captain for the first time in a Europa League match against Lazio, which ended in a 0–0 draw. Spurs finished in fifth place in the Premier League after Lennon scored four goals in the 2012-2013 season.

Lennon was loaned to Everton in the Premier League for the remainder of the season on February 2, 2015. In a Merseyside derby against Liverpool on Sunday, he made his club debut as a replacement. In a 2–1 win over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on March 22, 2015, he scored his first goal for Everton.

He returned to Spurs for a short time in the 2015-16 season, but he was not able to practice with the Under-21 squad and was not given a squad number. Lennon rejoined Everton on a three-year contract for a reported £4.5 million. He started 2016 in a strong vein of form, scoring in a 1–1 draw at home, as well as in three consecutive Everton victories in late January and early February. In a 3–1 away win at Aston Villa, Lennon continued his scoring streak, while also scoring in a 3–2 home loss to West Ham United on March 5th. However, this form was short-lived as the team's progress slowed and a disappointing start to the season led to the dismissal of manager Roberto Martez.

When Lennon's new boss, Ronald Koeman, took over, the club had a more difficult look as the pecking order was still on the track. Lennon had just 14 minutes of football during the first two months of Everton's league debut, his first league appearance against Swansea City was on November 19, 2016.

Lennon joined Burnley in Premier League for an undisclosed fee on a two-and-a-half-year deal on January 23, 2018. On January 31, his debut was as a replacement in an away game against Newcastle United that ended in a 1–1 draw. Lennon did not get on the scoresheet until the following season, when he scored his first and only goal for the club against AFC Bournemouth in September 2018. He left the club on the expiration of his deal in June 2020 and made a total of 55 appearances.

Lennon joined Süper Lig club Kayserispor on September 2nd, 2020 on a free transfer.

After the expiration of his Kayserispor deal, Burnley's Robert Nnon rejoined Burnley on August 2521. He made his second appearance against Newcastle United in the EFL Cup on the same day. Lennon, the club's owner, left the club on June 10 after his deal came to an end.

International career

Despite being only 19 years old and uncapped at senior level, Lennon was called up to the England U21 team for the first time in October 2005 and named in England's 2006 FIFA World Cup squad on May 8th.

In England's World Cup warm-up match against Belarus on May 25, 2006, he was named man of the match in the England B versus Belarus in a World Cup warm-up match that England lost 2–1. In the 6–0 win over Jamaica on June 3rd, he made his full England debut as a second-half replacement.

In England's 2006 World Cup group stage match against Trinidad and Tobago (his first World Cup finals appearance), Lennon appeared as a second-half replacement for the team. England beat the opposition 2–0 after Wayne Rooney and his son's return to the field. Lennon later played in the quarter-finals against Portugal, replacing him as a replacement for the injured David Beckham. Jamie Carragher was then recalled for Jamie Carragher right before a penalty shootout, which England lost.

Lennon made an immediate impact by helping Peter Crouch's second goal after being given the ball for the first time. In a Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel in March 2007, he made his first appearance for England and was also named in the first XI for the following match against Andorra. Lennon's last appearance for exactly two years was announced by England on March 28, 2009, in a friendly match against Slovakia at Wembley Stadium. When England defeated Ukraine on April 1, 2009 at Wembley Stadium, Lennon started for England.

Following his fine form for Tottenham for the friendly against Slovenia and the World Cup qualifier versus Croatia, he was named man of the match in the 5–1 victory over Croatia.

Lennon was one of Fabio Capello's 23-man team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He got off to a good start in England's first two games, the 1–1 draw against the United States, and the 0–0 draw with Algeria.

Lennon was called back to the England squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland, making him an early replacement in the San Marino match and providing the cross for Danny Welbeck's first goal. In February 2013, he earned his final cap in a friendly against Brazil but was forced to miss the following month's World Cup qualifiers due to injury.

Jeremy Doku the dribbler of Man City's 1-1 draw with Liverpool reveals his class, not since Raheem Sterling had Pep Guardiola's more effective striker than the Belgian flyer

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 25, 2023
DANNY MURPHY: I suppose I said 'WOW' for the first time when Jeremy Doku went past Trent Alexander-Arnold. And though he's a Red and knows all his stats on FIFA, my teenage son is a huge fan. I'm not surprised, because regardless of what time of football it is, there is nothing more thrilling than seeing a winger dribbling at speed. Given how good Manchester City has been in recent years, it's almost unfair that they now have another, different major weapon. Pep Guardiola had an attacking player who is just as direct as the Belgian flyer, but not since Raheem Sterling. Wide men Aaron Lennon and Dennis Rommedahl, who both had speed and a strong desire for their running.

Tottenham 1-4 Chelsea is up for second in the Premier League's CRAZIEST games: with Arsenal's 8-2 humbling, the Battle of the Bridge, and Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle... but where does the Premier League place it among the top ten?

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 7, 2023
Chelsea's 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur had just about everything you could want from a football match. Six goals were blocked out, five goals were scored, two red cards, seven yellow cards, and a team was tasked with nine men and leaving plenty of gaps in behind, with six men on the field and leaving plenty of holes open. It was an end to an epic for the neutrals, and it should rank as one of the most bonkers games in the English top flight.
