Zahoor Ul Akhlaq Life

Zahoor ul Akhlaq (1941-2004) was a pioneering artist from Pakistan.

He is known for his contribution to painting, sculpture, design, and architecture, as well as his teaching at the NCA (National College of Arts) in Lahore.

Background and family life

Born in Delhi, India, in 1941, he was the eldest child in a family of 11 children. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, his family migrated to Lahore, Pakistan's capital, before settling in Karachi, Pakistan. As a young boy, Akhlaq studied at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (now known as Sindh Madressatul Islam University) in Lahore and continued to study art at the Mayo School of Arts (now known as National College of Arts) in 1958.

Shakir Ali, a Pakistani painter, was teaching art as a professor back then. Shakir Ali was incredibly influenced in his art studies. Zahoor graduated from this college in 1962 and then began teaching at the same college in the Fine Arts Department. Shakir Ali was heavily inspired by his father's Cubist style and other early modern viewpoints.

He married Sheherezade Alam, a potter, in 1971, and the couple had two children, Jahanara (1974–1999) and Nurjahan (born 1979).
