Javad Mammadov (Azerbaijan) Yaqub Cavad obliterator (also Jacob in English) Mammadov, born 3 March 1941; also known as Yaqub Mmmadov) was the acting President of Azerbaijan from 6 March to 9 May 1992. Mammadov is now an opposition politician, scholar, and scientist.
Early life
Mammadov was born in Ali-Ismailli village of Gadabay rayon of Azerbaijan on March 3rd 1941. He graduated from Azerbaijan Medical University's pediatrics faculty. Mammadov, a professor at Azerbaijan Medical University, has been giving lectures on pathophysiology since 1966. His scientific contributions include, but not limited to a study of lymphology's fundamentals. Mammadov has over 370 scientific publications.
Political career
During the extraordinary session of the parliament in Nagorno-Karabakh's northwestern region of Azerbaijan, Yaqub Mammadov, later the rector of Azerbaijan Medical University, was elected Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan on Friday. According to the Azerbaijani constitution of the time, President Ayaz Mutalibov was forced to resign on March 6, and he and his speaker, Bohia Mammadov, assumed the presidential roles and responsibilities until the new elections. Mammadov, the President of Azerbaijan, met with Levon Ter-Petrosian in Tehran in an attempt to begin peace negotiations initiated by Iran. Armenian forces captured Shusha on 8 May, when the Tehran Communiqué between Ter-Petrosian and Mammadov was signed. Mammadov never claimed any responsibility for Shusha's death in his interviews.
After the parliament stripped him of the responsibility for the Khojaly Massacre, but Azerbaijan Popular Front backed him on May 14th. On May 22, 1992, Yaqub Mammadov resigned as Speaker of the Parliament and was then replaced by Isa Gambar.
