(21 August 1871–1 March 1934) was the Mayor of Zagreb from 1920 to 1928, a period of uncertainty. He was best known for the city's great development projects in the 1920s, and after being sent to Graz and Stuttgart to become an architect, graduating in 1893. He was licensed in 1896 for solely as an architect, and he built many buildings in Zagreb. * He became a city councillor in 1910 and 1912, he became the mayor of the local Chamber of Trade and Crafts. He halted his career and travelled around Europe before returning and coordinating the food supply of Zagreb during World War I. Heinzel was also a pioneer in Croatian automobilization and was one of the first automobiles to be built in 1906. Heinzel was first elected mayor in 1920 and served until 1921, when the city administration was partially disbanded. He was elected as a member of the Croatian Bloc in 1922. * He had been in 1926 and 1927 with the Croatian Peasant Party and the Party of Rights, but was re-elected in the subsequent election. * His government orchestrated the building of large portions of today's Pecetnica, Trnje, Trenje, Maksimir, and other city communities. * His contributions included the construction and expansion of numerous hospitals, the opening of the Dolac Market, and the reconstruction of the Lajmi highway, later Sajmizna, and today the Vjekoslav Heinzel Avenue, a prominent north-south avenue in the city's eastern district, which divides Trnje and Pecenica. Zagreb's first 0.35 kW radio transmitter was built during Heinzel's tenure as mayor on June 15, 1926. * The city's first automatic switchboard was installed on April 1st, a year ago, but Heinzel's efforts came at a price, as the city needed to borrow 250 million Yugoslav dinars, which was a point of serious concern at the time.
