Is it a Leonardo Di Vinci masterpiece or merely an inferior copy? As it goes on display in Turin, there's a mystery about Mona Lisa's painting, with experts split on whether or not Mona Lisa's painting of a 'younger, happier' Mona Lisa is by the Italian master

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 27, 2023
The so-called Isleworth Mona Lisa spent more than two centuries in England before being buried in a vault in Switzlerland for decades. Now that it is on display in Italy, claims are being repeated that it is painted by Leonardo da Vinci as it is its far more popular cousin that hangs in the Louvre in Paris. The head of the Swiss foundation that promotes the work on behalf of its private owners said they had been'beyond reasonable doubt' that the iconic Italian artist produced two iterations of his most famous paintings. However, it sparked a scathing reaction from Italy's junior arts minister, who called it 'junk' and said that it "lacks Leonardo's soul." The Isleworth Mona Lisa depicts a younger woman with a wide smile, while behind her are two columns that are not seen in the Louvre's version.

The most audacious art heists in history: From Mona Lisa stolen by worker who simply lifted it off the wall to theft of an Edvard Munch by crooks who left note saying: 'Thank you for the poor security'

People have attempted to purchase expensive works and valuable artefacts from museums throughout history. The Mona Lisa was stolen by a man who simply lifted it off the wall, in comparison to the robbery of an Edvard Munch leaving a note that read: 'Thanks for the poor security.' A worker who was a "world expert" was fired by the British Museum after items were "missing, stolen, or damaged," according to the British Museum. Peter John Higgins, 56, had worked at the museum for 30 years before being accused of stealing. Vincenzo Peruggia stepped up to the painting, took it off the wall, removed it from its case, and carried the Mona Lisa home, going back to 1911.
