I'm a GP and missed my own breast cancer symptom: Here's how to spot the early warning signs, which DON'T always include a lump
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 20, 2024
As a GP, Dr Fiona Baber felt sure she knew better than most how to recognise breast cancer symptoms. So when in 2012 the then 49-year-old felt a strange sensation in one of her breasts, she brushed it off as nothing. 'When you're a GP you're taught to examine breasts for lumps and I couldn't feel anything, so I assumed that it was fine,' she said. 'But when I leaned over in the shower and pressed my fingers against my breast, I could feel one area that seemed slightly denser.' Two months on, the sensation hadn't disappeared. So Dr Baber, who ran a surgery in Southampton, made an appointment with another local GP. He couldn't feel anything either - and simply told her to come back in a month if she still felt worried. But by this point Dr Baber was desperate for an answer, so she made an appointment with a private specialist. After a series of scans and tests, her worst fears were confirmed - she had breast cancer.

But it has been a very unpleasant, turbulent, relentless time in my life.' The 'lot' that Ms Abbington alluded to undoubtedly included the toxic row with her former dance partner Giovanni Pernice.

The band took to social media this evening, revealing extra shows at the London arena on September 27 and 28 next year. Oasis said of the dynamic pricing system: 'As for the well reported complaints many buyers had over the operation of dynamic ticketing: it needs to be made clear that Oasis leave decisions on ticketing and pricing entirely to their promoters and management, and at no time had any awareness that dynamic pricing was going to be used.

Today, Cabinet minister Lucy Powell questioned the 'transparency' of Ticketmaster pricing for Oasis tickets after she managed to bag two tickets for the hotly-anticipated reunion tour - but at a steep price.

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: The BBC continues to tie itself in knots over who knew what about Huw Edwards
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 6, 2024
As the BBC continues to tie itself in knots over who knew what about Huw Edwards, they might want to consult Victoria Derbyshire, who was working on an expose of Edwards for Newsnight. Meanwhile, reporting on Edwards's guilty plea last week on News at Ten, Clive Myrie made the unprecedented on-air claim that BBC News reports 'without fear or favour'. There are some in the BBC who wouldn't agree.
How Carol Vorderman spouting off on social media sealed her reputation as a political commentator - but ex-Countdown star's rants about Laura Kuenssberg, Tory 'gaslighting' and Jay Slater's disappearance have sparked controversy
www.dailymail.co.uk,
July 9, 2024
It was an unlikely career trajectory for the presenter once best known for her speed with arithmetic on Countdown - but Carol Vorderman's reinvention as a political commentator is all but complete. Vorderman, 63, went to war with the BBC 's Laura Kuenssberg at the weekend, accusing the veteran political journalist of bias during an interview with Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey on her Sunday show. Kuenssberg had qualified her congratulations to the Lib Dems for winning more than 70 seats with the phrase 'I suppose', prompting Vorderman to call for the BBC to replace her with fellow presenter Victoria Derbyshire. Responding to the clip, the maths whiz had written on X: 'Vic D is exceptional and gives them all a hard time if that is what's needed. She knows her detail and cuts through with any bias. BBC is lucky to have her.' And in the two days since that interview aired Vorderman has tweeted nothing but politics - praising Labour's new education secretary and congratulating the Lib Dems and the Greens on their new arrivals to Parliament
Now Carol Vorderman goes to war with Laura Kuenssberg: Ex-Countdown host says the BBC politics presenter should be dropped for Victoria Derbyshire - after she sparked fury over 'opinionated' and 'rude' interview with Ed Davey
www.dailymail.co.uk,
July 8, 2024
Kuenssberg is facing a backlash and has been accused of 'bias' after her grilling of the Lib Dem leader, with people on social media branding her introduction of the MP as 'rude' and disgraceful. However, it was the veteran political journalist's use of the phrase 'I suppose' in the introduction which sparked outrage online - with many demanding the BBC sacked Kuenssberg. Wading into the backlash, former Countdown star Vorderman, 63, appeared to call on the BBC to drop Kuenssberg from her political show and replace her with veteran presenter, Victoria Derbyshire.'Time for #bbclaurak to become #bbcVictoriaD don't you think? @vicderbyshire Quite extraordinary,' she wrote on X, adding: 'Vic D is exceptional and gives them all a hard time if that is what's needed. She knows her detail and cuts through with any bias. BBC is lucky to have her.'
BBC's Newsnight is being reduced to 'yet another talk show' by being turned from heavyweight programme into 'half an hour of debate', veteran journalist warns
www.dailymail.co.uk,
May 12, 2024
Investigative reporter Michael Crick has joined a backlash against changes to the flagship BBC2 current affairs programme as part of corporation-wide plans to save £500million. The show, currently presented by Victoria Derbyshire, is lined up to be cut from 40 to 30 minutes while losing more than half its staff - with a new approach involvement more Question Time-style live debates. Its team of dedicated reporters is being dropped and the show's own investigative films will cease, in a move ex-Newsnight political editor Crick today condemned - as he warned a 'grossly inferior' show is likely. Viewers of Newsnight, which launched in January 1980, have almost halved to 300,000 since 2020 - while Jeremy Paxman 's final show in 2014 was watched by 1.1million people, though this was double the average at the time.
Iranian who first claimed asylum in Greece before crossing Channel in small boat and settling in the UK says Rwanda deportation bill won't stop migrants coming to Britain
www.dailymail.co.uk,

Nima Moradi insisted the government's 'stop the boats' plan - which finally passed through Parliament on Monday night - will have hardly any deterrent effect. He admitted he had been granted asylum in Greece, then pondered a move to Germany before deciding on the UK. Asylum seekers who have made it have been receiving Home Office letters warning them they risk being flown to Rwanda because they failed to seek asylum in the first 'safe country' they passed through. But migrants camping in Dunkirk on the northern French coast have been declaring they will still try to cross to UK - and keep coming back even if deported.
On BBC's Newsnight, a moment for eco-protesters unfolds 'protect our rivers.' Victoria Derbyshire, the show's presenter, cuts her off - as the show devolves into chaos
www.dailymail.co.uk,
March 19, 2024
Last night, the BBC's Newsnight descended into chaos after an eco-protester unfurled a 'protect our rivers' banner before being barred from attending Victoria Derbyshire's house. After being handed a microphone as Derbyshire progressed to pollution in the last minutes of the programme, Angela Jones said the River Wye is on the brink of ecological demise. Jones triggered a demonstration by releasing a banner, but Derbyshire politely told her, 'Thank You Angela.'
After the audience dropped to 300,000 viewers since 2020, BBC Newsnight will host more question Time-style live debate shows in an attempt to relaunch its viewership
www.dailymail.co.uk,
March 13, 2024
Newsnight will soon host more live debate shows as it takes inspiration from Question Time and chooses a new editor in a battle to reclaim lost viewers. Jonathan Aspinwall, who has worked with the corporation for 27 years and now runs BBC News Podcasts, will lead the news and current affairs program. He will be executive editor four months after the BBC decided to cut more than half of the show's 60 employees and minimize it to 30 minutes in order to save £7.5 million. While struggling to recover viewer numbers in recent years, the BBC is struggling to make £500 million of savings in the face of rising inflation and a licence fee freeze. Viewers have nearly halved to 300,000 since 2020, with Jeremy Paxman's final exhibition in 2014 bringing in 1.1 million, but this was double the normal at the time. Mr Aspinwall, who edited Laura Kuenssberg's Sunday newsnight, would 'lead Newsnight' as it progresses into a debate, discussion, and interview-based programme,' according to the BBC.
King Charles is gearing up for "crisis" talks over the Oval of Scobie: After the Dutch translation 'named two royal racists, the Dutch translation 'puts those who were 'on the table,' in addition to all options including court action.'
www.dailymail.co.uk,
December 3, 2023
This week, Buckingham Palace officials will consult with aides to Prince William to discuss how to cope with the fallout from anti-racism allegations following the publication of Omid Scobie's book Endgame. According to one source, the two families would gather to discuss all aspects of responding, with 'time and care' being taken before any decisions are made. Following allegations that King Charles and the Princess of Wales remarked on the skin colour of Prince Archie, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's son, in the Dutch version of the novel, all options are thought to be 'on the table,' including court action. Charles, who returned to the United Kingdom after many days at the COP28 environment summit in Dubai last week, is reported to be taking the book's furore seriously.' Charles is expected to discuss the situation with senior advisors during the week, as well as doing his duties with aides, saying it would be 'business as usual' with royals to be seen as 'rising above' the row.

The King is taking the controversies over the Omid Scobie book'very seriously' and will consult senior advisors next week on the family's next move. In a Dutch-language version of the ill-reviewed Endgame, two senior royals - rumored to be the King himself and his daughter-in-law, the Princess of Wales - were listed as having been identified by Meghan over a 'concern' being expressed about her future son's skin colour.' It includes the possibility of court action. It comes as Scobie, who appears on BBC's top Newsnight show, was 'hurt' and 'frustled' by the week's events.

Barbados is no longer a republic, but other Commonwealth nations, Jamaica, Grenada, and Antigua and Barbuda all have a growing republican sentiment. A referendum in Saint Kitts and Nevis is currently underway. This new anxiety from a Sussex cheerleader will not be welcome by the monarch.

Ms Derbyshire then protests: 'Before I talked to you, Mr Bennett, I spoke with a veteran Palestinian politician, and I asked her about the massacre of Israeli civilians in southern Israel.' LIZ O'RIORDAN: I felt a lump under my skin and knew my breast cancer was back for a third time - but it CAN be cured
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 5, 2023
LIZ O'RIORDAN: I noticed it in the mirror four weeks ago when washing my hair after a shower. Just to the left of my mastectomy scar, I have a little red mark on my chest. I might have sworn it was not there the day before. It didn't hurt, but I could feel a tiny firm nodule-like lump under the skin as I went for it. I knew exactly what it was. For the third time, my breast cancer came back. Over me, a chilling, nauseous sensation washed. I went to see my husband, Dermot, and he gave me a hug. But was it a local recurrence, where the cancer returns in the same area as the initial tumour? Three years ago, I had one of these, three years after my first breast cancer diagnosis.
