Aaron Rodgers appeared to give his tepid approval of New York Jets first-round pick Olu Fashanu, while admitting the team didn't necessarily need another offensive tackle. Among the major moves the Jets made were signing eight-time Pro Bowl selection Tyron Smith, acquiring offensive tackle Morgan Moses from Baltimore and signing former Ravens guard John Simpson. Despite those signings, Fashanu was selected at No. 11 overall by New York after the Jets traded down one spot Thursday night. 'We already made three moves in the offseason [to address the offensive line] with bringing John [Simpson] to play guard, Morgan [Moses] to play tackle and Tyron [Smith] to play tackle as well, so it wasn't necessarily at the top of the needs,' Rodgers said. 'But I know they really loved Olu.'

The NFL Network first reported the contract, and ESPN announced that it would be a one-year contract with a potential value of up to $20 million, including incentives. The news has since been confirmed by a team source.

Smith No. 1 was drafted by Dallas in the draft. Overall, Tulsa defeated him, and he had hoped to be the Cowboy's starting left guard before heading to tackle. With veteran left tackle Tyron Smith expected to miss months of the season due to an injury, it now appears that the rookie will take his starting position for the foreseeable future.

After 'America's Team' lost star offensive lineman Tyrone Smith to a serious leg injury, former Los Angeles Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth says he has been inundated with calls from families and Cowboys fans to sign in Dallas. The 40-year-old Super Bowl champion pleaded sorry for Smith's, who is likely out early next year, and a sudden need for his services during a sideline interview on Thursday night. 'I mean, obviously, there have been some problems with the Cowboys and the injury of Tyron Smith,' Whitworth said. 'It's just an awful lot.' Such a good player and a guy I've always loved watching play.' The decision ultimately rests with his wife, Melissa, and their four children, as Whitworth explained.
