ADRIAN THRILLS: When Everything But The Girl was offered the opportunity to help U2 on a United States stadium tour in 1997, it seemed like a ticket to superstardom: the perfect platform on which to capitalize on the success of their biggest album, Walking Wounded, which had been out of print two years ago. However, at least one person feared the enthralling prospect: singer Tracey Thorn. There must have been some doubt about how the duo's subtle electronic sounds would perform on such a large stage (actually not so well). Thorn wanted to start a family with her companion Ben Watt, who remained a student at the University Of Hull in the 1980s.

It's not always a smart move to get back to your ex in life. Different laws in music may apply. Tears For Fears resurfaced in 18 years last year, Soft Cell for their first time in 20 years, and both were on fine form. Now Everything But The Girl has recorded their first new album in 23 years. Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn are married to each other, which is the twist. Is it possible to get back with your ex when they're also your spouse? The two of them fell in love as students at Hull University in 1981, during the mists of 1981. A little later, they formed a band, stealing their name from a Hull furniture store's tagline. They made ten electro-pop albums and had one smash hit after graduating, Missing. They had just the right amount of success: they were consistent winners in the game of acclaim despite never winning a Brit award.
