EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW BY NIK SIMON IN COLOGNE: It is Wednesday morning and Cologne is full of Englishmen pontificating about Gareth Southgate 's selections. Most of them are bleary-eyed fans, clutching a bag full of McDonalds as they head for the train station. Next stop: Gelsenkirchen. Yet Tony Woodcock is going nowhere in a hurry. Tucked away by the woods on the edge of town, this has been his second home since he left Brian Clough and Nottingham Forest to join FC Koln in 1979. He is fluent in German and his daughter lives just around the corner. 'I was coached here by the late, great Rinus Michels,' says Woodcock, the former England striker, who became the Bundesliga 's most expensive player when he moved over all those years ago.

The Manchester United loanee rejoined the club in January after being exiled by Erik ten Hag and has begun to replicate the form that earned him a £73million move to the Red Devils in 2021. Sancho took his tally in the German top-flight to 40 with a delightful curling effort into the top corner after only 20 minutes of the clash. The effort took him one past the record of former Nottingham Forest and Arsenal winger Tony Woodcock, who made made 155 appearances for Koln across two spells in the 1970s and 80s.

CHRIS SUTTON: A documentary about football's Hollywood role will be a must-watch television series, and it's no wonder Netflix wants to see some of the action

CHRIS SUTTON: In the 1986-87 season, Clive Allen scored 49 goals, and I was awed at his scoring skills. Trevor Francis was a kid, with a hint of Tony Woodcock and Garry Birtles. Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rushe need to yell out, and Jimmy Greaves and Geoff Hurst's hat-trick are included in the series. We've got to mention Roy of the Rovers too. Now there was a goalscorer - so good, he had his own sketch. I'm sure why Netflix needs a series on strikers.
