Beloved smokehouse Fargo's Pit BBQ closes after 24 years in business due to 'challenging economic climate'

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 9, 2024
A popular smokehouse has closed after more than two decades of serving brisket, ribs and other Texas barbecue classics. The restaurant's owners revealed a 'challenging economic climate' is behind their decision to end a business they've been running since the turn of the millennium. Rising food costs aren't just battering the average consumer, it is wreaking havoc on the US restaurant industry, small and large establishments alike. Red Lobster is the most high-profile chain to go completely bust recently, with other formerly dominant American staples like Cracker Barrel and Boston Market gradually waning in influence as the years go by.

The best Christmas films of all time have been ranked by IMDb; did your favorite make the list?

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 25, 2023
It's finally Christmas time. If you're in possession of a box of chocolates, this is the perfect time of the year to relax and switch onto a wholesome film. Although the holiday season is all about gift giving, the best part of it is enjoying a belly full of food when not watching your favorite film. However, there are just so many to choose from, whether it be Die Hard at Home Alone or Die Hard of Home Alone, finding a film the whole family wants to watch can be daunting. MailOnline has compiled a list of the Top ten Christmas Films of all time, so you won't miss out on the must-watch festive shows. Did you favourite Christmas film make the list? Take a look at the following links and let us know.

TOM UTLEY: I'd hate for you to believe that I don't love my children, but their Christmas visit brings back all the horrors of parenthood

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 21, 2023
TOM UTLEY: My wife made a strange remark after we went to the theater this week with our two oldest grandchildren, ages six and three, to see the singalong version of The Muppet Christmas Carol. Michael Caine was sadly miscast as Scrooge, according to her. I didn't disagree with her because what she said was obviously true. However, I found her comment odd because, personally, I think Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy were even more miscast as Mr and Mrs Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim's parents. Nor was I entirely positive that Gonzo, a Muppet with blue and purple fur and an extended proboscis, was absolutely correct for the Victorian genius Charles Dickens. But then, I'm no film critic. What do I know? People will tell you that Christmas is a time for children, and that all that matters is that they should enjoy every minute of it. Well, I will admit that our grandchildren seemed to love The Muppet Christmas Carol inordinately. The main reason, I think, was because they'd seen it hundreds of times before, whether in the theater or on some online streaming service. After all, young children in the United Kingdom are unlikely to get bored of seeing the same movie or being read the same book over and over again.

As a guest defiles the breakfast show's brand new couch, Sunrise stars Matt 'Shirvo' Shirvington and Monique Wright were left shocked

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 19, 2023
When a Sunrise guest left their couch defiled with faeces, Matt 'Shirvo' Shirvington and Monique Wright were left stunned on Tuesday morning. Just months after relocating the breakfast show to a new studio in South Eveleigh, Billy Collett and Kaitlin Matheson, an Australian Reptile Park employee, sullied the iconic piece of furniture by a tortoise. Tiny Tim, a miniature Indian star tortoise, was the object of the rather tumultuous crash.

With a sign proudly announcing the restaurant's inconsistencies, a Kent tearoom strikes back at a TripAdvisor reviewer who chastised the restaurant for a spelling error on the menu

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 14, 2023
The anonymous diner diner dined Tiny Tim's tearoom in Rochester to enjoy a gluten-free Saturday lunch. However, their visit was marred by several aspects, according to the disgruntled customer's three-star write-up of their visit. 'I went on my own on Saturday lunchtime,' according to their essay. I asked for gluten-free alternatives and was given jacket potato. With chilli, I had to wait for more than 20 minutes. When I came in, there were six other people in the cafe before I came in. A party of three people ate after me, possibly because I inquired where my food was located. Understaffed possibly? The food was delectable. However, my jacket potato was served with salad and crisps. I hadn't asked for crisps because so many brands of crisps have gluten in them. Lastly, I'm a fan of Charles Dickens (he had a strong Rochester connection) and was surprised to learn that the breakfast named after him was spelt "Dickins." On the wall, there is also a framed piece of gothic text giving an outline of Dickens' life and work. Dickens was notably misusing the apostrophe when he was identified by name,' sadly, there was a lot of misappropriation of the word.' The restaurant's owner did not take the criticism lying down and instead treated the situation in a tongue-in-cheek fashion. (Pictured L-R: Tiny Tim's in Rochester, a sign outside the tearoom. The cost of living crisis encourages the revival of Victorian-era ailments, such as scurvy and rickets

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 10, 2023
According to NHS England reports, admissions due to the serious illness have increased by four-fold in the last 15 years. Hundreds of patients with Victorian-era ailments, including scurvy and rickets, have been hospitalized in the western world in the 20th century, with vitamins added to breakfast cereals, plant-based milks, and margarine. Medics blamed the cost of living crisis for causing the public to cut back on fruit and vegetables and consume more junk food that is deficient in essential vitamins and minerals. If the poorest are able to afford healthier foods, experts warn that more Dickensian diseases will return.

SIMON JORDAN: Luton isn't plastic; they're the representation of our sport

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 31, 2023
SIMON JORDAN: Since being promoted to the Premier League, there is a semblance of pomposity and an element of misplaced football elitism directed at Luton Town. So much of the debate since the dramatic Wembley victory has been focused on Kenilworth Road and the fact that the stadium isn't in the best shape - it's all been a little mean spirited. But rather than worrying about the apparent negatives, we should be celebrating their return to England's top flight after a 31-year absence because they deserve their time in the sun.

"Traumatic" Live TV Show Sent Nick Jonas Sent Him to Therapy, according to his

www.popsugar.co.uk, May 24, 2023
During an interview on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, Nick Jonas candidly recalled one of his most "traumatic" onstage moments. The "Jealous" singer joined his brothers, Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas, in an interview on May 22nd to address the band's 2013 breakup and solo careers. Jonas also delved into the 2016 ACM Awards, causing him to attend therapy during a discussion about his most recent appearances. Despite being very prepared, Jonas was hosting a duet of "Peter Pan" with Kelsea Ballerini when he witnessed a "tragic guitar solo debacle" on live television. "I'd rehearsed it a million times, feeling really confident about it, but not even concerned about it like it's going to be difficult," Jonas tells Shepard. "I started off — it's fine — and as I began [Kelsea] I went straight away and went completely blank, and it's like I've gone blacked out."

Great Expectations: Olivia Colman in awe of Fionn Whitehead and Shalom Brune-Franklin

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 21, 2023
Ebenezer Scrooge was depicted in his version of A Christmas Carol as a violent schoolboy who grew up to lure Tiny Tim's mother into prostitution. So perhaps it's no surprise that Steven Knight's BBC1 version of Great Expectations converts Miss Havisham, played by Olivia Colman, into an opium addict, as seen below. There have been references to the British Empire's links to the slave trade in several stories, with several characters hammering home an anti-colonial message.

Why, asks BARBARA AMIEL, can't our society accept the profound grief that comes with losing a pet?

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 6, 2023
BARBARA AMIEL: Dog movies have never been a favorite of mine, except for Lassie. I'm sure how they'll end, with either the dog's death or the owner's, as well as a final picture of the devoted animal walking behind a coffin. It's painful. Then, my graceful Arpad died on December 28, one day before his 13th birthday. 'You're going to be a teenager next year,' I'd been telling him.'

The letter that brought me right to an end with the Cold War

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 25, 2022
I'm set to make many sacrifices, but not on Christmas Day were a stone-cold house and an unhappy youngest child. Could we have enjoyed all of yesterday's festivities with the heating off all day? Well, of course. But it was lovely not to be worried about the forecast (after the recent Troll of Trondheim's big freeze), the thermostat, and how many layers of thermals we needed to wear. This year, Christmas Day is a day of indulgence; our gluttony went beyond pouring flaming brandy over the figgy pudding to firing up the central heating. It was delectable.

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Charles's fondness for Beatrice led him to amend the Counsellors of State Act

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 16, 2022
EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: King Charles' dismissal of the Counsellors of State Act - excluding Anne and Edward, who retained Harry and Edward with the promise that only 'working royals' will be used - can be traced to his fondness for Princess Beatrice. She is a counsellor and has enthralled Charles by combining 'normal' life with understated royal service, which he sees as a model for the future. Sacrificing Harry and Andrew would have meant doing the same to Beatrice. The King didn't want her to be tarred with the same wood as her banished father.

We Ranked 10 Scrooge Movies, from "Spirited" to "The Muppet Christmas Carol."

www.popsugar.co.uk, December 6, 2022
If you've missed this before: Ebenezer Scrooge, a senior, miserly man, and despite his nephew Fred's best efforts, he's content to be miserable for the remainder of his life. Others suffer around him, including Bob Cratchit and his family, including Tiny Tim, but Scrooge is unconcerned. That's right, until Christmas Eve, when three phans guide him in exploring Christmas past, present, and future. They remind him of Belle, the first girl he ever adored who died because he was so fixated on money. Tiny Tim will die if things go as they are. People will celebrate in the streets as Scrooge is gone. Scrooge, who believes he's been condemned to hell, awakens Christmas morning with a full of life and eager to make amends for his mistakes. Tiny Tim lives. The tale of "A Christmas Carol," first told in Charles Dickens' 1843 novella, has inspired artists for decades and has become a Christmas classic. Hundreds of Scrooge films have appeared, ranging from vivacious musicals to chaotic modernisations, faithful memoirs, to Muppet-filled spectaculars. I set out to rank ten major adaptations of "A Christmas Carol" and films all about Scrooge, and the process made me reflect on why people stayed tuned to this story for so long. Scrooge sucks, I mean. That's it. He's a wealthy, white male capitalist who is unconcerned about everyone else. Why does he deserve redemption?

This Steptoe-like Scrooge is a Dickens of a triumph: PATRICK MARMION reviews A Christmas Carol

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 11, 2022
PATRICK MARMION: Well, they've been selling mince pies in M&S for weeks, and the seasonal lights are set to light up on Stratford's High Street. So perhaps we shouldn't be concerned with the pro-arrivalance of the Royal Shakespeare Company's Christmas Carol, starring Adrian Edmondson as Scrooge. Moreover, there are so many Dickens' yuletide yarn lines around the world this year that it's likely that the RSC would order theirs early. Nor is there any doubt that this will be one of the best in Dickensian Victoriana, thanks to Rachel Kavanaugh's sumptuous production of wigs, waistcoats, and wassail.

In the "Spirit" Trailer, Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell put a twist on "A Christmas Carol."

www.popsugar.co.uk, October 13, 2022
Many iterations of "A Christmas Carol" have appeared on television, but "Spirited" is the only one with a movie musical starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell. Apple TV+ will carry the latest Christmas movie just in time for the holiday movie marathon. "Spirited" isn't the "Christmas Carol" that your "great great great great great great great great grandparents" are familiar with, according to the streamer's trailer, which arrived on October 12th. Reynolds plays Ebenezer Scrooge in this latest update, while Ferrell portrays the Ghost of Christmas Present. Octavia Spencer appears in the film, although her role has yet to be revealed.
