Timothy David Llewelyn Hughes (born 23 July 1977) is a British worship leader, guitarist, songwriter, and Anglican priest.
He served as a minister in the Church of England and appointed Vicar of St Luke's Gas Street Birmingham, and was formerly the minister of worship at Holy Trinity Brompton, a large Anglican church in central London.
Worship Central, an international worship education and resource center, is led by him.
Hughes has written several songs that are popular around the world, including "Here I Am to Worship", "Beautiful One," "Jesus Saves," "At Your Name," and "The Way."
Personal life
Hughes, the son of an Anglican vicar, grew up in High Wycombe before deciding to Birmingham as a teenager after his father was appointed vicar of St John's Church, Harborne. He studied history at Sheffield University, graduating in 2000.
Hughes is married to Rachel and has four children.
Career
Hughes began his music career in 1997 when Mike Pilavachi invited him to lead worship at a Soul Survivor festival. Hughes succeeded Matt Redman as Worship Pastor after he was ousted from Soul Survivor Watford Church. In 2005, he moved to Holy Trinity Brompton, an Anglican church in central London, as the minister of worship. He and his family and their families immigrated to Birmingham in 2015, where they now lead Gas Street Church.
He is a member of Compassionart, a charity founded by musician Martin Smith, and Delirious' front man.
Hughes trained for ordination at St Mellitus College, a non-residential Anglican theological college in London. During a service at St Paul's Cathedral, London, Richard Chartres, Bishop of London, was ordained in the Church of England as a deacon. During a service at St Mary Abbots, Kensington, William Williams, Bishop of Kensington, ordained him as a priest on June 22, 2014.
Hughes was curacy at Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB) in London from 2013 to 2015. In 2015, he was named priest-in-charge of St Luke's, Gas Street, Birmingham in Birmingham's Diocese of Birmingham. This was a church plant from HTB, and it involved the restoration and consecration of a derelict warehouse to be used as a chapel for Hughes and his staff. On February 5, 2016, the church officially opened on February 5th.
