After a group of Extinction Rebellion environmental campaigners superglued themselves hand in hand around the Speaker's Chair, Scotland Yard raised concerns about its protection for the Houses of Parliament today. After booking onto a formal Parliament tour, three demonstrators stood around the chair in a chain, and it turned into a speech about how'what goes on in this chamber every day makes a joke out of us all.' Two other protesters stood behind the House of Commons and waved "let the people decide" and "citizens assembly now," while another scaffolded outside and held a banner. The Parliamentary Security Department, which coordinates security vetting and permits, is in charge of providing armed and unarmed policing, as well as a Metropolitan Police Division, which provides armed and unarmed policing. The incident took place five years after PC Keith Palmer, a child who was shot and killed in March 2017, when he blocked knife-wielding insurgent Khalid Masood from entering Westminster but died as a result of his wounds. A group of three men and three women performed a song with the lyrics: "Take back the Commons / snap the padlock, break the chains" / Take back the Commons. / Raise a glass to Thomas Paine. This group was then led out of the building by police officers who were singing another song. Now, here, now, and forever / We need to act, high impact, and protest.'
