A D-Day veteran has been given a very special birthday gift. Lieutenant Richard Willis RN was the second in command of a landing craft tasked with transporting American tanks and troops to Utah Beach, Normandy, as part of Operation Overlord in June 1944. During the horrific attack, he was wounded in the leg by shrapnel. His centennial was commemorated at Nynehead Court Care Home, near Wellington, Somerset, where he now lives. Lt Willis' birthday celebrations were attended by his family. Ted Allen, Somerset's Vice-Lieutenant, was on hand to thank Lt Willis for his war service. The Lieutenancy, which was contracted by the UK Hydrographic Office and stored in Taunton's archives, will present the veteran with a D-Day chart of the Utah beach landings.

The antisemitic crowd, led by the Philly Palestine Coalition, marched on Goldie's in Center City, screaming and chanting: "We can't hide, we charge you with genocide." Mike Solomonov, an Israeli-born, Pittsburgh-raised chef, owns the restaurant. He has received the James Beard Award in the past, and since the ordeal, influential politicians and friends have rallied behind him. Senator John Fetterman called the assault "pathetic and rank antisemitism," while Governor Shapiro said it was 'hate and bigotry is reminiscent of a dark age.' The student at the nearby University of Pennsylvania - a violent uprising against Israel - erupted on Sunday.
