Surya Sen Life

Surya Sen, also known as Surya Kumar Sen (22 March 1894 – 12 January 1934), was a Bengali rebel in British India who was instrumental in the Indian independence movement against British rule in India and is best known for the 1930 Chittagong armoury attack.

Sen was a school teacher by trade, and his title "da" is a Bengali word that is commonly used to describe honorific suffix. Though he was a B.A. undergraduate, he was influenced by nationalist ideals in 1916. (Now Krishnath College) is a student at Berhampore College. He was elected president of the Chittagong branch of the Indian National Congress in 1918. Sen was known for attracting a group of young and ardent supporters referred to as the Chittagon group. Ananta Singh, Ganesh Ghosh, and Lokenath Bal had fought in Chittagong against the British station.

He was a pioneer in the Non-cooperation movement and was arrested and jailed for two years from 1926 to 1928 for his pioneering efforts. Sen was a brilliant and inspiring organiser who often said, "Humanism is a special virtue of a revolutionary."

Sen and other remaining rebels dispersed into small groups and hid in neighboring villages following raids on government forces and property after the Chittagong raid in 1930 and a brutal confrontation that claimed the lives of over 80 British Indian Army soldiers and 12 revolutionaries. Sen. was arrested on February 16, 1933, tried and was jailed on January 12th. 1934, he was released.
