Just a few miles further down the Ayrshire coastline from Royal Troon, Matteo Manassero had the dream ticket when he first teed it up in the Open Championship.
It was at Turnberry back in 2009 where Manassero announced himself on the global stage as a fresh-faced 16-year-old.
The fact he did so whilst playing alongside golfing royalty only made the experience all the more special for the young Italian.

RIATH AL-SAMARRAI AT ALEXANDRA PALACE: Luke Littler's future is uncertain, but Luke Humphries, the current darts champion and smaller than no man, is the subject of three dazzling weeks and one that is completely absorbing final. For so long, it seemed that the actors would line up in favour of a 16-year-old phenomenon, Alexandra Palace's child prince, who is destined to be king. But sports, a glorious hobby, doesn't always work that way, and Humphries, the game's hottest player and the game's most popular script, does not always work that way.

IN ROME, MIKE KEEGAN: They say on a sunny day – and there are plenty of them at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club – you will get a glimpse of St Peter's Basilica. Many people carrying the hopes of Europe and the United States may well want to post a prayer as they trudge up a humiliating back nine, rising 155 feet from the course's lowest point. It may be about ten miles northeast of one of the world's most historic cities, but this is no place for old men. 'I've never seen anything more demanding, physically, I've ever seen,' said US vice-captain Stewart Cink, a veteran of five of these transatlantic tussles.
As Europe's captain tries to tackle the physical challenges of the Marco Simeone course, Luke Donald warns his Ryder Cup players that they will not participate in all five sessions in Rome

RIATH AL-SAMARRAI: Luke Donald has warned his Ryder Cup stars that they may have to be rescheduled for critical sessions as he prepares to face the demanding physical challenge of the Marco Simone course in Rome at the end of this month. The 7,300-yard track, although not lengthy, is packed with punishing sand sandblasts, and the match against the United States will be fought in heat predicted to reach 30 degrees. Stewart Cink, a five-time Cup winner, recently described the layout as the "most physically demanding of any Cup course I've ever seen," a sentiment shared by European players and caddies following their reconnaissance trip last Monday.
THE OPEN DIARY: Brooks Koepka makes his point to Patrick Cantlay again, Sahith Theegala mistaken for Tony Finau and local snubs £30,000 to rent out her house

In the search of a first major title in the 151st Open Championship, Tommy Fleetwood rode a wave of home support to the top of the leaderboard. The 32-year-old from Southport inherited an opening 66 to split the clubhouse lead with South African amateur Christo Lamprecht and Emiliano Grillo on five under par. Antoine Rozner of France and Spain's Adrian Otaegui were a shot behind, with former champion Stewart Cink denying Tom Watson a fairytale victory at Turnberry in 2009, and US Open champion Wyndham Clark and Alex Noren.
Who is Christo Lamprecht, the unknown amateur leading The Open? The 22-year-old South African, who is a member of SIX FOOT EIGHT, loves hunting, but has never participated in a major tournament until today

After a spectacular first round at Royal Liverpool, Christo Lamprecht is on his best comeback; the 6ft 8ins amateur leads The Open. The 22-year-old is in his senior year at Georgia Tech, where he is majoring in Business Administration. One eye on becoming a financial manager or advisor seems to have a promising future on the golf course.
LIV's Carlos Ortiz wins a six-hole playoff tournament, but Jaden Soong and Michael Block did not qualify

After qualifying on the sixth hole of a playoff Monday, LIV Golf rebel Carlos Ortiz snuck into the US Open. Golfers from around the world and Canada were competing for a spot in the US Open at Los Angeles Country Club on Monday on June 15 over 36 holes. Ortiz, who jumped ship to Saudi-backed LIV, was keen to participate in the big championship the old fashioned way, and he did well. In the meantime, a repeat of the PGA Championship's Block Party was not meant to be. Michael Block, a club professional who stole the hearts of fans at Oak Hill with his tied-15 finish, and his 18-year-old son Dylan failed in their efforts to make it a family affair in the third major of the year.
At the Phoenix Open's 16th hole, Stewart Cink wears a brand-new Suns Kevin Durant jersey

Stewart Cink made a good first appearance at the Waste Management Phoenix Open by playing up to the crowds at the famous par-3 16th hole dubbed 'The Coliseum.' Cink stepped up to take his tee shot just hours after Kevin Durant was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Phoenix Suns, putting on a hot-off-the-presses KD jersey. Cink stepped up and shot his tee shot, but it fell nearly 100 feet short of the cup, to the delight of the masses watching on.
