The rioters charged with bringing violence to Britain's streets: Interactive map reveals how many have been charged over days of chaos that have gripped country - how many are from YOUR hometown?

Rioters have brought violence and disorder to our streets over the last week - but many are now being humbled as they face Britain's justice system. Police have made more than 400 arrests over the riots which have been fuelled by the killing of three young girls in a horrifying stabbing rampage in Southport last Monday. Civil unrest first erupted outside a mosque in Southport over misinformation online that the teenage suspect was a Muslim aslyum seeker who had arrived in the UK on a small boat. Since then, riots have spread across other parts of the country, with far-right thugs seen launching bricks at officers, torching police cars and targeting hotels housing asylum seekers. Sir Keir Starmer has warned that rioters will face the 'full force of the law' and many are facing justice this week as the government fast-tracks cases thorough the courts to send a message. MailOnline's interactive map reveals how many protesters have been charged and where they committed their offences.

UK riots: Police swarm streets of Barnsley and arrest protesters in latest scenes of unrest as more demos are planned for tonight and university closes campus amid fears of further violence

Protesters descended on Barnsley today amid chaotic scenes as a crowd shouted at dozens of police officers amid fears over further rioting across Britain. Businesses locked their doors and staff worked from home in the South Yorkshire market town to avoid any potential violence ahead of a planned demonstration. Detectives confirmed there three people were detained at the protest, including a 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. South Yorkshire Police also told MailOnline that a 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a banned breed and possession of a controlled drug; and a 42-year-old man was detained on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. It comes after shops were boarded up in many towns and cities over fears of further rioting after a week of violent disorder which started in Southport on July 30. Planned anti-immigration protests failed to materialise yesterday, despite the threat of more than 100 planned demonstrations - but fears remain that more could follow. Queen's University Belfast has announced its campus will be closed tomorrow, with an anti-immigration protest and a counter-protest expected in Northern Ireland . The National Police Chiefs' Council warned there are 20 potential gatherings and three counter-protests planned for today across the UK, adding that only 36 out of the 160 demonstrations planned yesterday actually ended up taking place.

Bingo fan bitten on backside by police dog, 69-year-old grandfather who torched a library and protester floored by a riot shield are all put behind bars

Britain's crackdown over the riots sparked by the killing of three girls in Southport continued today - as thugs including a bingo fan bitten on the backside by a police dog, and a grandfather who was part of a mob that torched a library were jailed. Ryan Sheers, who yelled 'I pay your wages' at embattled officers before a police dog nipped him, wept in court as he was jailed for over two years today. The 28-year-old and his boyfriend Steven Mailen, 54, had spent the day at the bingo together before walking into the middle of the disorder that rocked Hartlepool on July 31. Each received sentences of two years and two months in prison by a judge who told them the public were 'rightly outraged by the behaviour seen on the streets of this country.' The pair, both from Hartlepool, had pleaded guilty to a charge of violent disorder and had been warned to expect jail, however Sheers burst into tears when the length of the term was announced.

'Quite what you were protesting about remains a mystery to many': Judge's withering comments to thugs in Southport 'baying mob' as he jails them for two years - after teen, 18, wailed 'I'm a child' when he was arrested for throwing bricks at cops in riots

Two rioters who were each 'at the forefront' of violent disorder across Britain have been jailed for 32 months. Gas fitter John O'Malley, 43, who rioted outside a mosque in Southport last Tuesday in a crowd of 1,000 people, was told that he was "at the front of what was essentially a baying mob". Judge Andrew Menary KC added: "You were part of a crowd using obviously racist and religiously intolerant language that was demonstrating quite deliberately outside a mosque, and you were an active and persistent participant." O'Malley was sentenced alongside semi-retired welder William Nelson Morgan, 69, who admitted violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon - a wooden bat - in Liverpool on Saturday night. Morgan was part of a group of around 100 people who set fire to bins and buildings, threw bricks and damaged local businesses in County Road, Walton. Their cases were fast-tracked through the courts as the government looks to send a message to anyone involved in the civil unrest.

UK riots: Teenager, 18, who wailed 'I'm a child' when he was arrested for throwing bricks at officers is among latest thugs shamed in court - as dozens more face justice today over violent clashes

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 8, 2024
An 18-year-old who was seen 'celebrating' after launching bricks at police officers during a 'vile and destructive' riot is among dozens of far-right thugs who are facing justice this week. Cole Stewart was cheered on as he hurled missiles at riot police who had been deployed to a violent protest in Darlington, County Durham, on Monday evening. Shocking CCTV footage shows the teenager repeatedly throwing bricks and other objects near North Lodge Park, with one of them striking an officer. The teenager screamed 'I'm a child' as he was pinned to the ground by police and arrested at the scene. He pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Wednesday ahead of sentencing on Friday.
