According to family members, Steve Hawkins, 58, and Wendy Hawkins, 52, died of various forms of cancer in the same hospital in Yankton within ten hours of each other on Friday. Steve had been fighting cancer for five years, while Wendy died after a shorter illness, according to a statement by the Yankton County EMS, which Steve had been overseening since 2009. The couple had three children, all in their 20s, who were left devastated after the death of both parents just two days before Christmas.
