Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson (born February 11, 1983) is an American mixed martial artist who currently competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship as a welterweight.
He is a former full-contact kickboxer who has been undefeated in 37 amateur and 20 professional kickboxing matches.
Thompson is widely regarded as one of the most versatile strikers in UFC history.

Early life
Thompson was born in Simpsonville, South Carolina, on February 11, 1983. He has two sisters and two brothers. Thompson began training at the age of three under the leadership of his father, Ray Thompson, a former professional kickboxer and owner of Upstate Karate, a South Carolina karate school.
At the age of 15, Thompson began competing in kickboxing and karate. In Tetsushin-ry Kempo, American Kickboxing, and Jujutsu, he has earned his black belt rank. Under Carlos Machado, who is also his brother-in-law, he investigates Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Thompson graduated from high school in 2001 and is the Head Instructor of Upstate Karate's children's karate program.
Personal life
Thompson's sister, Stephanie, is married to Carlos Machado and Thompson's brother, Tony, who is married to Chris Weidman's sister.
He began working with international modeling firm IMG Models in 2017.

Ray Thompson, Thompson's father, is his coach and boss.
Thompson, an amateur kickboxer, has won 16 titles and completed his career with a record of 37 wins, 18 of which were knocked out, and no losses.
On May 15, 2004, he turned professional against Kadir Kadri, who was defeated by a landslide in the fifth round.
At "La Renaissance du Kickboxing" in Montreal, Canada, Thompson traveled to Montreal, Canada, on December 14, 2004. In the fifth round, he gained the fight by physical knockout.
At Martial Arts May-Hem 05 in Greenville, South Carolina, Thompson rematched Kadir Kadri. He won the battle by a unanimous vote.

Thompson competed at UFC 205, where he met reigning champion Tyron Woodley. The fight came as a majority draw, with two judges deciding 47–47 and the third 48–47 in favour of Woodley. However, there was some confusion when Woodley's result was initially reported as a split decision victory but then informed a majority draw, despite the same result of Woodley remaining champion. Both fighters were also granted Fight of the Night bonus awards shortly thereafter. Dana White, the president of UFC, said he hoped that a rematch would be next for each fighter.
In the main match at UFC 209, the rematch with Woodley took place on March 4, 2017. Thompson lost the contest by majority decision (48–47, 47–47, and 48–47). Five out of five reporters scoring the game scored in favour of Woodley, six scored in favour of Thompson, and eight scored it a draw.
On November 4, 2017, Thompson met Jorge Masvidal at UFC 217. He won the one-sided battle by a unanimous vote (30–26, 30–27, and 30–27).
Thompson took on Darren Till in the first match of his new multi-fight deal on May 27, 2018 at UFC Fight Night 130. Till weighed in at 174.5 pounds, 3.5 pounds over the welterweight non-title fight limit of 171. The feud came to a halt when Thompson's team was negotiating, with the promise that Till would not weigh more than 188 pounds on the day of the match. Till also forfeited 30 percent of his funds to Thompson. Thompson lost the battle by majority decision (48–47, 49–46, and 49–46). Thompson was rated by 22 of 25 media outlets in favor of the fight.
On March 23, 2019, Thompson met former UFC Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in the headliner of UFC on ESPN+ 6. Despite outstriking Pettis for the majority of the game, Thompson lost by knockout in the second round, marking the first time Thompson had been barred from participating in MMA or kickboxing competitions.
