A shorter pitch clock, according to Major League Baseball's players' union, has been responsible for a string of pitcher injuries since the 2024 season. Shane Bieber of Cleveland, Matthew Strider of Atlanta, and Jonathan Loaisiga of the New York Yankees are only the latest in a line of pitchers suffering elbow injury, including Miami's Eury Perez and Oakland's Trevor Gottman. "Despite widespread player resistance and significant questions regarding health and safety, the commissioner's office cut the length of the pitch clock last December, just one season away from enforcing the most significant rule change in decades," union executive Director Tony Clark said Saturday night in a tweet.
