Sonya Walger (born 6 June 1974) is a British-American actress.

She appeared in the short-lived sitcom The Mind of the Married Man (2001-2002) and Coupling (2004) before settling as Penny Widmore in ABC's Lost.

Walger appeared on Tell Me You Love Me (2008), FlashForward (2009–2010), and Common Law (2012).

In 2016, she debuted in the ABC series The Catch.

Early life

Walger was born in Hampstead, London. She studied English Literature and Christ Church, Oxford, where she obtained a first-class degree. As her father was Argentinian, Walger is conversing in French and fluent in Spanish.

Personal life

In July 2009, Walger married screenwriter/producer Davey Holmes. Billie Rosie Holmes, a girl, was born on February 14, 2013. In 2015, she gave birth to her first son Jake. Walger became a citizen of the United States on May 23, 2013.

Career

Walger began her career on British television. In 1998, she appeared in an episode of ITV's crime film Midsomer Murders. She appeared in two episodes of the crime/drama The Vice's recurring role in the BBC 1 sitcom Goodnight Sweetheart from 1999 to 2005. In the Heat of the Sun's story "The Sport of Kings" (1999), she played the daughter of newspaper magnate Max Van der Vuurst, Hilde. Walger made her film debut in Eisenstein's biographical thriller the following year. Donna Barnes appeared on HBO's The Mind of the Married Man in 2001. After two seasons, the show was cancelled. In 2003, she appeared on the short-lived US version of Coupling, which aired on NBC. Walger appeared in The Librarian: The Exhibition of the Spear, where she received the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress on Television in 2004.

Walger appeared in ABC's Lost, from 2006 to 2010. She also appeared on Sleeper Cell, CSI: NY, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Walger appeared in the original Broadway revival of Frost/Nixon in 2007 as Charlotte Cushing, David Frost's then-girlfriend. Then appeared in the tense HBO series Tell Me You Love Me. Because of the program's frequency and remarkably realistic nature of its sex scenes, the series gained notoriety even before the first episode had aired. Despite persistent rumors to the contrary, these scenes were eventually revealed as simulated by several people closely connected with the show. director Patricia Rozema and Walger's co-stars Ally Walker and Jane Alexander also denied that any real sex took place on set, despite Walger's apparent manual masturbation on actor Adam Scott at the end of the pilot episode. After a single season, the series was cancelled.

Olivia Benford, a surgeon and wife of FBI agent Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes) appeared in the ABC series FlashForward from 2009 to 2010.
