Siddharth Roy Kapur (born 2 August 1974) is an Indian film producer, founder of Roy Kapur Films, and president of the Film and Television Producers Guild of India.

He is the former Chief Operating Director of The Walt Disney Company in India.

Early life and education

Siddharth Roy Kapur was born in Bombay (modern-day Mumbai) on August 2nd, 1974, to father Kumud Roy Kapur and his mother, Salome Roy Kapur, who is a former Miss India and internationally recognized dance choreographer. Sam and Ruby Aaron, India's first teachers of ballroom and Latin American dance styles, are dead. Roy Kapur is the oldest of three brothers; his younger brothers, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunaal Roy Kapur, are among the well-known actors.

Roy Kapur attended G.D. Somani Memorial School, where he was Head Boy, and moved on to study commerce at Sydenham College, where he was president of the Dramatics Society and edited the annual college magazine. He obtained a master's degree in Management Studies from the Jamnal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies after completing his bachelor's degree in Commerce.

Personal life

Aarti Bajaj, his first wife, was his childhood friend. After divorcing her, he married television actress Kavita, whom he divorced in 2011. Vidya Balan, a married Kapur actress, was born on December 14, 2012.

Career

Roy Kapur started his career in Mumbai in brand management with Procter & Gamble.

He went to Star TV in the strategic planning division after P&G. After a brief stay in Hong Kong as part of the News Corp Executive Development Program, he returned to Mumbai to work on the initial sales of the legendary TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati on StarPlus. He was nominated for the Team News Corp Global Excellence Awards in recognition of the show's pioneering marketing efforts behind the show's triumph. He then moved to Star TV's Middle East operations, headquartered in Dubai, where he was Regional Marketing Manager for the network. Roy Kapur joined the Star Headquarters in Hong Kong in 2002 as Director (Marketing) and later was promoted to vice president, overseeing the Central Marketing & Creative Services staff across all Asian markets for the Star TV network.

Roy Kapur first appeared on television Motion Pictures in Mumbai in 2005 as Senior Vice President, Marketing & Communications. He led the marketing efforts behind the success of Hungama TV in the competitive kids' broadcasting market. He went on to lead the marketing efforts behind several pathbreaking films, including the cult BAFTA-nominated blockbuster Rang De Basanti and sleeper hit Khosla Ka Ghosla, which were released in 2006 and ushered in a new trend in India's cinema.

Roy Kapur took over as CEO of UTV Motion Pictures in January 2008, and after the company's 2012 merger with The Walt Disney Company India, he became the managing director of the studio. He led the studio to commercial success and critical acclaim by directing and releasing some of the most influential and profitable films of the decade, such as Taare Zameen Par, Jaane Tu... Roy Kapur was promoted to managing director of Disney India in January 2014, with the responsibility for driving the company's strategy and expansion into television, movies, software, television, and live entertainment, which was represented by numerous companies such as Disney, UTV, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, ABC, Bindass, Hungama TV, and Hungama TV.

Disney is one of India's most well-known media and entertainment companies, producing and releasing India's highest-grossing Hindi movies of all time under Roy Kapur's leadership (Dangal in 2016 and PK in 2014), as well as India's second highest grossing Hindi movie of all time (The Jungle Book in 2016), as well as a slew of other top-grossing Hindi films such as Kick, 2 States, ABCD 2, Haider,

Roy Kapur Films, a production company, moved from Disney to build his own film house in 2017. The Netflix original film Yeh Ballet, produced by RKF, received acclaim in 2020.

In its first week of launch, RFK's first streaming series, the crime thriller Aranyak, debuted in 2021 and debuted on Netflix as one of the Global Top 10 non-English Series. Rocket Boys, a SonyLIV original series about the establishment of India's space and atomic programs, was also a hit in 2022.
