However, it's not the only scandal to have rocked the monarchy in recent years, with the illicit affairs of King Juan Carlos eventually leading to a financial scandal which saw him abdicate in 2014 in disgrace. Even Letizia's side of the family is not free from controversy, after her sister Telma has two children with Gavin Bonnar (bottom centre) shortly after he split from his ex-wife, Sharon Corr. Fans of the Irish singer-songwriter believe lyrics she wrote about 'the queen's evil sister' may have been a dig at Telma, in a bizarre twist that saw controversy surrounding the royals spill out into pop culture.

Sharon Corr has claimed she was refused boarding on a Ryanair flight home to Dublin because she was travelling with her violin. The Corrs musician, 54, shared a post on Instagram on Sunday, saying she was left 'humiliated and crying' during the incident. Sharon, who has lived in Madrid since 2018, wrote that she was booked on a Ryanair flight home to Dublin, where she was travelling to rehearse for her upcoming tour dates with her sisters and brother.

The royal, 51, wore the chic, single-colour ensemble as the couple honoured troops during Spain 's National Armed Forces Day. Letizia paired the eye-catching ensemble with a simple but stylish pair of flat white trainers. Mother-of-two Letizia let her bold trouser suit, which she paired with a top of the same colour, take centre stage and carried no handbag. Her jewellery was also kept to a minimum: she wore a pair of statement drop gold and red earrings, and a chunky gold ring was visible on her index finger. Spain's National Armed Forces Day, which dates back to 1978, is an annual event held to raise awareness around, and recognise the work of, the Armed Forces.
