A snapshot of an old hardware store posted on Facebook as 'Remember This?' has resulted in hundreds of customers sharing their recollections of hardware stores that have now sadly become a thing of the past. Three men are seen behind a glass-fronted counter with a row-row of wooden shelves stacked with DIY items behind them, according to the photograph, which was reportedly taken in the Nock and Kirby store in George Street, central Sydney. The image of a world now all but vanished, causing customers to be furious about the loss of their 'one-on-one' they sold and the knowledge they had.

In a recent submission to the Australian Parliament's select committee on living, outgoing CEO Scott Marshall of Metcash Foods chastised Bunnings. Mr Marshall informed the committee that major competitors were purchasing Mitre 10's independent stores and that this was primarily pinned to the 'anti-competitive' tactic on Bunnings. 'Metcash is aware of Bunnings' letters to at least seven Mitre 10 companies, which have urged them to discuss selling their store to Bunnings,' he said.
