Parking apps see profits soar despite backlash against cashless payment platforms

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 5, 2024
Two of the UK's leading parking apps have raked in stellar profits at the same time as being accused of ripping off motorists. RingGo's sales soared 16 per cent to £30 million last year and profits rose 20 per cent to £6.1million, while PayByPhone reported revenues up 90 per cent to £12million in 2023, with profits up by 47 per cent to £407,889. The two firms have grown rapidly in recent years as more local authorities ditch traditional pay-and-display machines in favour of using cashless payment platforms.

How bus lanes brought in ahead of 2014 Commonwealth Games rake in £64m in fines for Scottish councils

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 21, 2024
Their origins can, in part, be traced to moves to introduce special traffic lanes in Glasgow as the city geared up for the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Figures obtained by this newspaper show the fines have, for a decade, been issued at an astonishing rate of more than 500 every day, with drivers having paid an eye-watering £64 million in fines.
