All Creatures Great And Small review: Vet James Herriot's back where he belongs, at the business end of a cow, writes ROLAND WHITE

If you've been watching All Creatures Great And Small since the heady days of 1978, you might care to take a stiff drink and sit down before reading on. What I am about to say amounts to television heresy. The Channel 5 version of this much-loved show returned yesterday for a fifth series, and it's now clear to me that Samuel West is a better Siegfried than the great Robert Hardy. Hardy's Siegfried was a force of nature. But with his hurricane-strength personality, it was hard to see why anyone would want to work with him. He was a tuba in an orchestra of piccolos. West's Siegfried is still the alpha male of Skeldale House, impulsive and sometimes impossible, but the character is more rounded. His kindly side is allowed to peep through more often.

Week in Tunisia: Tune in for a big cosy hug this week

CLAUDIA CONNELL: At this time of year, there's something about charming, cosy period TV dramas that pull us in. The nights are drawing in, there's a chill in the air, and the prospect of people riding bicycles on cobbled streets is highly appealing. The characters may have a few wobbles and tragedia along the way, but you know that a happy, uplifting ending is guaranteed. And there's nothing more cosier, less threatening, or unashamed than All Creatures Great And Small, which is back for a fourth series. One can only imagine the reaction when the company first suggested remaking one of the BBC's most popular series based on the life of a Yorkshire vet.

The Wildlife Trusts' annual marine survey has highlighted some of the most unusual wildlife sightings in UK waters this year. For the first time, a colorful sea slug was seen in UK waters. Babakina anadoni, a slug found by a diver off the coast of Isles of Scilly, an archipelago southwest of Cornwall, on July 29. It's just 0.8 of an inch (2cm), less than half the width of a little finger, and it's covered with a variety of jewel-like 'cerata'. A swordfish that appeared off the Isle of Man in August, and a 100-year-old Greenland shark that washed up on these shores for the second time ever are among the list. But Wildlife Trusts has warned of 'huge threats to marine life,' including the avian flu that has killed tens of thousands of seabirds.

Elizabeth II dies: The Queen's wit, Olympics acting debut and love of corgis and racing remembered

The Queen was known to be a mystery throughout her life, with royal watchers rarely getting a glimpse of Her Majesty's personal life. However, the Queen, who has died at the age of 96, was brought to life in the Netflix series The Crown (pictured), which chronicled her years of service, from her wedding to Prince Philip in 1947 to becoming the monarch at just 25, before finally finding her feet in the role as she met with hundreds of Prime Ministers, Presidents, and world leaders. It has also pointed to difficulties in the beginnings of her marriage to Prince George of Edinburgh, as well as her children's broken marriages throughout the four seasons. However, the show split on how true its portrayals were; in 2021, Prince Harry said that the program is 'loosely based on the truth,' and portrayed the feeling of being expected to place 'duty and service above family and everything else'; However, Prince Charles spoke out about his depiction on film, shocking Scottish politicians that he is 'nowhere near' his character on the program. So, how accurate was the portrayal of Her Majesty? FEMAIL reveals what was real and false in the drama, from her 73-year marriage to Prince Philip to her love of horses and promise to always place duty first.
