TOM LEONARD: Whaam! Pow! Fraud?Letch? Roy Lichtenstein was portrayed as a tragic thief with a raging libido that chased girls half his age 100 years ago - when billionaires still pay $165 million for his copycat artwork

LAND: Roy Lichtenstein, one of the pioneers of the 1960s Pop Art movement, has been dubbed one of the twentieth century's finest artists. His large painted renditions of comic-strip panels complete with eye-catching word balloons are instantly recognisable around the world and now change hands for tens of millions of dollars. Ex-lovers have stepped forward to paint a portrait of a turbulent man, whose quiet, unassuming facade concealed a raging libido, and who left a doomed marriage for an open one and pursued much younger women along the way. Hy Eisman, a comic strip artist whose work was also used by Lichtenstein for a $20 million painting, referred to his work as robbery. 'I worked like a dog on this ridiculous website, and this guy has $20 million to show for it,' he said.' It would not be [funny] if it wasn't so tragic.' Whatever the circumstance, there was no reason among the experts to question Lichtenstein's apprehension.
