News about Rowan Williams

I'm delighted a judge jailed the Just Stop Oil zealots - and even more pleased it's incensed Steve Coogan, Rowan Williams & Co so much, writes FRANK FUREDI

Many of us have been yearning for the self-indulgent, unaccountable green activists who inflict mayhem on our society to be given the punishment they deserve. Ordinary people have grown increasingly incensed by these arrogant eco warriors, who believe that their obsession with the so-called 'climate emergency' gives them the right to vandalise public property, paralyse the transport network and cause endless disruption without facing the consequences. That's why, like millions of others, I applauded the robust stance taken by Judge Christopher Hehir at Southwark Crown Court last Friday, when he threw the book at five zealots from the extremist pressure group Just Stop Oil who had mounted a major protest over four days on the M25. The gang's pony-tailed ringleader, former organic farmer Roger Hallam, got five years, while some of his fellow zealots - blessed with genteel names such as Cressida Gethin and Lucia Whittaker De Abreu - received four years each.

Unholy war: How 'entitled brat' wedding photographers are being accused of ruining ceremonies by vicars

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 18, 2024
Claire Lewis was so caught up in the emotion of her big day that the first few times the vicar shot decidedly un-Christian looks at the photographer, she was blissfully unaware. In fact, the first she knew of the mounting tension between the man uniting her and her partner in holy matrimony and the woman capturing the event for posterity was when the ceremony came to a sudden halt.

Even the sun came out to congratulate William and Kate! On the anniversary of their wedding, we remember the A-Z of a touching moment and a glorious occasion

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 29, 2024
It was one of the feel-good moments of the decade - the union of Prince William, handsome heir to the throne, and elegant commoner Catherine Middleton on April 29, 2011. Even the British weather agreed, with the clouds parting has the new husband and wife emerged from Westminster Abbey to greet the public - and found themselves bathed in golden spring sunshine. Many of us still have fond memories of those moments. And today, on the anniversary of the Waleses' wedding, we hope to jog a few of those with this A-Z of a glorious occasion.

A wedding photographer's life: From 'odd' vicars crowing about church photos to the happy couple's demanding family, the family's children are all shot out... and why you should ALWAYS be aware of the sister

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 10, 2024
Last week, more than 900 wedding photographers signed an online petition calling for the rights for wedding photographers and videographers in churches to be enhanced. They accused clergymen and women of making it nearly impossible to photograph couples on their special day because of their "rude, humiliating, threatening, and abusive behaviour." However, wedding photographers have pushed the envelope a step further, telling MailOnline that the other niggly annoyances they must deal with throughout the day range from grabby alcoholics to being told not to snapping annoying relatives.

After 900 protests against 'rude' and 'aggressive' clergy, livecars can get too snappy with wedding photographers attempting to photograph church, ex Archbishop of Canterbury says

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 3, 2024
Dr Rowan Williams, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, acknowledged that photographers photographing a wedding can be 'complete pain' and'overbearding,' if not unreasonable, but that photographers' requests of matrimony are "not unreasonable.' He admitted that some clergy's activities could be causing, but he also stated that there are 'two sides' to the controversy. His remarks come as a result of tensions between wedding photographers and clergy, with more than 900 snappers having signed a petition asking for church leaders to be more considerate last week. According to the photographers, it is becoming increasingly difficult to photograph inside churches due to the clergy's "aggressive, rude, and humiliating" behavior.

The COMMONER denominator! The princes, princesses, and even a queen or two are among the many monarchs who have to adapt with the times

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 3, 2023
An actor, a writer, a TV news reader, and even a model. One or two people did nothing at all. These royal wives are notable not only because some of them were born free, but because none of them were aristocrats. They were not intended to make a point of view on it; instead, mere commoners, in a state of affairs that had never been imagined. Here we take a look at the women who are living proof that monarchies are truly changing with the times...

NANA AKUA: Who will keep these meddlesome Archbishops from Ulez to migration?

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 19, 2023
Former Archbishop of Canterbury Dr. Rowan Williams must consider the harm Ulez is doing and that it will harm even more people by wrecking their businesses. Most small tradespeople in London can't afford to buy a new car or van that conforms to Ulez. They also have no choice but to use their own car. The issue with meddlesome priests is that they are completely detached from reality, shielded by the riches of their churches.

DAILY MAIL COMMENT: Is Labour's moderate mask starting to slip? Dissatisfaction with growing rumblings are emerging

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 18, 2023
The crew is still in open mutiny, but rumblings of dissatisfaction are on the rise. Captain Starmer is desperately trying to get to the Right, but the majority of his tars want him to chart a more Leftward course. The question is, can he keep them in line between now and the general election, or will they take him captive and commandeer the ship? So far, Labour leader Ed Miliband has had a smooth life. He has only had to do is criticize the Tory Government and pretend he has a moral alternative. However, with an election looming next year, he must now nail at least some of his colors to the mast. Many in his party don't like them, which is the issue.

Dear Lord, Dr Rowan Williams, the ex Archbishop of Canterbury, has faith in Sadiq Khan's controversial Ulez plans

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 18, 2023
Last night, Dr Rowan Williams (pictured) led faith leaders to promote Ulez' expansion at a joint event on fighting air pollution hosted with the Mayor of London. The religious leader was invited by Stamp out Poverty, a UK affiliate of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Campaign, to address the issue. Zara Mohammed, the Muslim Council's secretary-general, and Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, of New North London Synagogue, have all pledged their support for the initiative, saying that there is a 'collective responsibility' to help minimize emissions.

Prior to King Charles III's Coronation, Nick Cave appears at Westminster Abbey

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 6, 2023
On Saturday morning, Nick Cave arrived in Westminster Abbey ahead of King Charles III's Coronation. One of only a handful of Australian politicians invited to attend the historic function is Australia's music legend. As he made his way inside alongside Rowan Williams, the 65-year-old was dressed in his signature black suit.

To mark their 12th wedding anniversary, Kate Middleton and William shared a sweet unseen snap

Prince William and Kate Middleton married at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, in a service that was watched by 36.7 million people around the world. In a sweet snap shared on social media today, the couple appeared more in love than ever. The couple are seen riding bicycles in the portrait, shot by royal photographer Matt Porteous, in an outtake from a series of snaps shared on Mother's Day.

This week, a law prohibiting conversion therapy is expected to be published

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 15, 2023
A new ban on conversion therapy may be announced soon by the government, which addresses gender identity as well as sexual orientation. According to reports, the new law will be announced this week. The government had previously held off including trans conversion therapy in the ban, but there has been widespread cross-party support for a complete ban. 'It's good to hear that finally, after nearly five years, we're going to get the legislative ban that we've been so long awaited,' Jayne Ozanne, the former equality advisor to No. 10.'

King Charles's coronation may have sparked rumors of an affair confession

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 31, 2022
Anthony Holden, a King's biography, wrote a letter on Friday, saying that any coronation was likely to be nullified. "The Church of England has never crowned a divorced man as King, let alone one who has openly admitted to adultery,' Holden said, with the relevant woman expected to be crowned Queen Consort. This will necessitate a new statute of Parliament, according to Archbishop Robert Runcie [the former Archbishop of Canterbury].
