Romelu Lukaku has revealed the time in his life that football broke him, leaving him crying every day. The 31-year-old has enjoyed a fruitful start to life at Napoli after joining on a permanent deal from Chelsea in the summer. However, prior to the move, the forward endured a tough few years in the sport as he was shipped out on various loans while at the Blues. His form also impacted him at the international level and while playing for Belgium at the Qatar World Cup in 2022, Lukaku missed three gilt-edged chances in a must-win group match against Croatia. The misses meant Belgium could only manage a 0-0 draw and were ultimately dumped out of the World Cup before the knockout stages.

There were questions over how Enzo Maresca - still in the infancy of his managerial career - would handle the step up to a Chelsea side overflowing with players. Well, now we know.  Maresca revealed that he has cast more than 20 players aside to the 'bomb squad', where players are forced train away from their more favoured team-mates in a purgatorial wait for a transfer.  Some 13 of the group are being trained by former club goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini, while their newest recruit Raheem Sterling has been handed a few days to digest being told he has no future at the club and should look for a move. Oh, and his shirt No is being taken, too.

The 31-year-old striker has not played for Chelsea for over two years and is not part of Enzo Maresca's future plans. He could now return to Serie A for the third straight season after previous loan spells at Inter Milan and Roma. Napoli sent an official bid on Monday that has not been accepted, but Fabrizio Romano has revealed that further talks are set to take place as both clubs look to move forward with a deal. 

Napoli are reportedly close to finalising the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Napoli directors will meet with Chelsea in London in the next 24 hours as they look to secure a deal. Romano adds that all of the parties involved in the deal expect Lukaku to join Napoli.

He has spent the last two seasons on loan at Inter Milan and Roma, respectively, and could now be set to head back to Italy to play for a third different club.

Enzo Maresca has expressed his frustration with the oversized Chelsea squad, admitting that it's 'not good' to have so many players sidelined from first-team training. Chelsea currently have an eye-watering 43 players on their books, yet only 28 were selected for the club's recent preseason tour, with Maresca opting to leave the majority of the squad back in London.

However, Chelsea are dissatisfied with the sum of cash that the Serie A side have offered for Lukaku, who has two years left on his deal at Stamford Bridge. Napoli have reportedly offered £25.6million for Lukaku, but Chelsea are demanding closer to £40m. Lukaku has spent the last two seasons on loan at Inter Milan and Roma, scoring 35 goals in that time, and wanrts to be reunited with Antonio Conte in Naples.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen could still find himself in the Premier League despite Chelsea effectively ending their pursuit of the Nigerian as they press on with a move for Samu Omorodion. Mail Sport revealed talks between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are advancing over Omorodion, who is set to cost the Blues a cool £30million despite scoring just nine goals from 35 LaLiga appearances in a loan stint with Alaves. The deal for Omorodion would be separate to Conor Gallagher's move the other way, with the midfielder jetting into the Spanish capital to undergo a medical with Atletico Madrid ahead of a £33.7m move.
