The prostate's primary function is to produce semen, which is combined with sperm cells. About half of men aged 50 to 90 percent of those over 80 have an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). 'This gland, which is about the size of a walnut and is headquartered under the bladder, wraps around the urethra tube, which drains urine from the bladder's body,' explains Robert Calvert, a Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Trust consultant.'
