Robert Stanley Dyrdek (born June 28, 1974) is an American entrepreneur, actor, producer, reality TV personality, and former professional skateboarder.

He is best known for his roles in the reality shows Rob & Big, Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory and Ridiculousness.

He also is the creator of the animated series Wild Grinders, in which he voices the series' main character, Lil Rob.

In 2014, Dyrdek was labeled as one of the "most influential skateboarders of all-time" by FoxWeekly.

Early life

Dyrdek was born on June 28, 1974, in Kettering, Ohio, to Gene and Patty Dyrdek. He was involved in sports as a child and began skateboarding at the age of 11. Of his early interest in the sport, Dyrdek has stated, "I was so focused on becoming a pro skateboarder. I would sit in school and think about all the tricks I was going to do, then I'd get out of school and skate until they made me come inside." Dyrdek attended Fairmont High School in Kettering.

Personal life

Dyrdek has one sister. Dyrdek became an ordained minister through the Universal Life Church in order to perform his sister's wedding in December 2011. The ceremony, which was featured in an episode of Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory, took place at the Fantasy Factory in Los Angeles. He became engaged to his girlfriend, Filipino–American model Bryiana Noelle Flores, after proposing to her at Disneyland. They married and have two children.

Dyrdek, a local skate shop in Dayton, Ohio, received a sponsorship at the age of 11. At the age of 12, he started competing. Gordon and Smith Skateboard Company (G&S), a national brand, began sponsoring him around the time. Dyrdek was first in first place at a National Skateboard Association North Central District competition in July 1989. He decided against attending his senior year of high school and instead migrated to Southern California to continue his professional skate career at the age of 16. He turned pro in 1991, competing at the Skateboard World Cup in Germany and placing fifth, finishing fifth. He appeared in the Alien Workshop's memory film Memory Screen the year before. At that time, Alien Workshop, a Dayton, Ohio-based skateboarding company, began sponsoring Dyrdek. The company began making signature Dyrdek skateboards right after the endorsement was announced. At age 17, Dyrdek formed Orion Trucks, his own skateboard accessory business.

Dyrdek had been competing at exhibitions and exhibiting at exhibitions in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia by 1995. Dyrdek was sponsored by Droors Clothing, which later became known as DC Shoes. In 1995, he introduced his first signature shoe (the RD 1) with Washington, DC, marking the start of a 20-year collaboration that featured 29 signature shoes. Dyrdek Enterprises was founded in 1999, extending into the corporate world.

Dyrdek finished sixth in park skating at the X Games in San Francisco last year. Silver Trucks, a skateboarding accessories business, was founded in 2003. In 2005, he drafted, architected, produced, and raised funds for Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza, the world's first skate plaza, in his hometown of Kettering. The park emphasized elements of street skateboarding by including urban artifacts such as ladders, ledges, planters, and railings. It was the first project funded by the Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza Foundation.

In November 2006, MTV reality show Rob & Big premiered, starring Dyrdek and his best friend and bodyguard, Christopher "Big Black" Boykin, as well as his cousin, Chris "Drama" Pfaff, and Rashawn "Bam Bam" Davis. The DC Shoes, a skit Dyrdek wrote about a 2003 DC Shoes video, The DC Video. When filming street skating videos, Boykin hired Boykin as a bodyguard for cover from security guards. The show featured examples of these interactions as well as other aspects of Dyrdek's daily life. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Dyrdek set 21 skating world records in a single day as part of Rob & Big in 2007. Several of these included the longest board slide (60.6261 meters), the longest skateboard ramp jump into water (10 feet 8 inches (3.25 m)—, and the most nollie kickflips in one minute (22). After three seasons, the series came to an end in April 2008.

Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory, which stars Dyrdek Pfaff and his Dyrdek Enterprise workers, was the first broadcast in February 2009. It was covered by Dyrdek's "Reality Factory," a converted warehouse in which Dyrdek operates his companies. Pfaff also built a recording studio inside the factory. He launched his first SafeSpot SkateSpot during the first season. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa rode with Dyrdek on the world's biggest skateboard at the grand opening. The Fantasy Factory has appeared in a total of seven seasons, with the season finale airing on March 13, 2014. Dyrdek set the Guinness World Record for the longest reverse ramp jump by a vehicle on this episode at 89 feet, 3.25 inches. The series featured mainly a cast of Dyrdek, Chris Pfaff, Boykin, Scott Pfaff, Chanel West Coast, and Sterling "Steelo" Brim. Dyrdek was bitten by a shark and then attacked by a tiger in a previous episode. Other stunts included the first kickflip with a Chevrolet Sonic, which was shot as part of a Chevrolet Sonic commercial. He co-invented the first "skateboard car," a customized Ford Mustang that appeared on the show.

Dyrdek bought a racehorse with Joe Ciagla, Jr. in a 2009 episode of Fantasy Factory and jockeyed it in its first race. Mega Heath, the horse, defeated Dyrdek as the jockey in the run-up to the Olympics. He'd like to own as many as 13 horses at one time, some of which competed in Breeders' Cup tournaments.

Dyrdek introduced Street League Skateboarding (SLS), a pro skateboarding competition series, in 2010. In 2012, the league had the largest overall purse in the sport's history ($1.6 million) for its championship tournament, which was broadcast on ESPN in 198 countries. The league also joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to create new skate parks in California. The group was the focus of Dyrdek's 2013 documentary film The Motivation, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. SLS has developed into a worldwide network of events.

Ridiculousness, Dyrdek's third MTV series, premiered on August 29, 2011. Dyrdek and colleagues Chanel West Coast and Steelo Brim host the show, which is shot in front of a studio audience. The three people, rather than occasional visitors, primarily focus on popular internet videos that are often mishaps. Ridiculousness had the majority of MTV's programming schedule by 2020. The Wild Grinders animated television series premiered on Nicktoons in April 2012. Dyrdek created and produced the program, as well as providing the voice of Lil' Rob. The characters are based on a Dyrdek line of toys.

Dyrdek Enterprises acquired DNA Distribution, the holding company for his original skateboarding sponsor brand Alien Workshop, and other brands such as Habitat and Reflex. In October 2013, Pacific Vector Holdings acquired DNA Distribution. Dyrdek and his production company Superjacket Productions have agreed to a multi-year contract with MTV in order to continue producing Ridiculousness and Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory. Snack-Off, the Dyrdek-produced cooking competition series, premiered on MTV this year.

Dyrdek will continue to develop and produce a number of new series as part of Superjacket Productions. Both Dyrdek-produced shows, Jagger Eaton's Mega Life and Crashletes, premiered on Nickelodeon in 2016. He also produced The Dude Perfect Show, which premiered on CMT in 2016 and then was moved to Nickelodeon in 2017 for its second season.

He founded Dyrdek Machine, a business development company and incubator that caters to startups in 2016. He had previously worked as a serial entrepreneur while also investing independently in various companies, including UFC and Stance's clothing line. He co-founded, funded, and produced Lusso Cloud, Mindright, Travis Barker and Joe Jonas), Outstanding Foods, Leisuretown, Congratulations, Denton Libra, Jolie, and Travis Pastrana under Dyrdek Machine (with Travis Barker and Joe Jonas), and Black Feather Whiskey (with Travis Barker and Joe Jonas). Through the Dyrdek Machine, he had co-founded or collaborated with a total of 18 brands by 2022, five of whom had been purchased by outside investors.

Dyrdek also began producing television shows with Superjacket Productions. Amazingness, he created for MTV in 2017. The show was hosted by Dyrdek as a result of a talent competition. Following a merger between Nitro Circus and two Dyrdek-created entities, Thrill One Sports & Entertainment formed Thrill One Sports & Entertainment in 2020. At the time, the three companies were subsidiaries of Thrill One. Dyrdek and Superjacket put together another Ridiculousness spin-off for MTV called Deliciousness, a food-based clip show hosted by Tiffani Thiessen later this year. In 2021, Superjacket Productions became known as Thrill One Media. With Dyrdek as executive producer and Messyness and Adorableness, two more Ridiculousness spin-offs premiered this year.

Dyrdek's Build with Rob, a business-focused podcast, launched in 2021. He also founded the Do-Or-Dier Visionary Foundation, a non-profit group dedicated to providing entrepreneurship to underrepresented youth. Fiume Capital and Juggernaut Capital Partners acquired Thrill One Sports & Entertainment for $300 million in July 2022. Dyrdek provided additional investment capital in Thrill One at the time through the Dyrdek Machine.
