EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Prince Andrew should brace himself for more reputational damage after A Very Royal Scandal is aired
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 18, 2024
Prince Andrew, set for a further fall in public esteem with tomorrow's screening of A Very Royal Scandal, should brace himself for more reputational damage. Ben Macintyre's account of the 1980SAS storming of the Iranian Embassy recounts 20-year-old Andrew's excitement at the TV coverage of the siege. Then second in line to the throne, he ordered his protection unit officer to contact siege police commander John Dellow, adding that HRH 'would like to visit for lunch'.
Macintyre writes: 'The last thing Dellow needed, at this delicate moment, was a princeling and his entourage in the building standing around asking questions and eating sandwiches... The young royal wished to be where the action was. And he was used to getting what he wanted.'

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Eighteen months after Prince Harry's book Spare and there's still no sign of the paperback. Why not?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
July 17, 2024
Eighteen months after publication of Prince Harry 's Spare and still no sign of the paperback version. Publishers are usually swift to get one on the market, especially if they can market it as containing 'sensational' new material. But it seems Harry has no new spare excitement to impart. His family has kept him at arms length, aware that anything they say could be taken down and used in evidence against them. The only exclusives Harry could offer relate to his view of the Coronation from behind Aunt Anne's plumed hat and how he nipped in to Buck House en route to Heathrow to use the loo.
EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Any Tories suggesting Sir Keir Starmer is too old should be careful... King Charles, 75, isn't a fan of age-related jokes as the oldest to take the throne
www.dailymail.co.uk,
May 28, 2024
EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: ToryParty imps suggesting that Sir Keir Starmer is over the hill should tread with caution. At 75, the King, the oldest person to take the throne, doesn't take kindly to age-related jokes, with all his PMs likely to be relative youngsters. It was different for his mother. Her first seven PMs were older than her and her last seven were younger. Number 9 Margaret Thatcher, 53, was the same age. Of the 57 PMs, 12 have been older than Starmer, 61, when they came to office for the first time, including Churchill (65), Attlee and Macmillan (both 62). The last sexagenarian to enter Downing Street was Labour's Callaghan (64) in 1976. A good omen for Keir?
America's new 'death valley': Inside the rural town where suicide rate has mysteriously exploded to become 'the fourth highest in the world'
www.dailymail.co.uk,
May 8, 2024
The unnatural deaths in Natrona County began last fall, and have continued into the new year. Coroner Jim Whipps on Tuesday urged county commissioners to address the issue, after 12 people, mostly young adults, killed themselves over the past four months. 'If you extrapolate that out, that is like 36 to 40 suicides that I can expect this year,' five-year vet Whipps said. That would break a record set in 2022, he pointed out - when 32 people Natrona County committed suicide. The root cause, he said, remains unknown - leaving citizens of county seat Casper concerned. The town is where a 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death as he tried to protect his girlfriend from two teens at a mall - a blow to the tight-knit community.

'At the last minute I got back into hospital and they thought they couldn't save me but they did and I came through,' he told the former News Of the World editor.

I've been doing everything over the years, from a politician to a soldier on Her Majesty's Pleasure, but on my 82nd outing tomorrow, I'll be a prison chaplain and hard at work. I am now a minister, not of the crown but of the cloth, and was ordained as a priest in 2019. It's a handbrake change from my turbulent tenure in the Commons but it's much more rewarding. In fact, I can confidently say that I have never been happier, particularly at this difficult time of year. My Christmas Day will begin early tomorrow, with me arriving at HMP Pentonville, the 185-year-old North London jail where I served for more than five years as a chaplain.
The death knell for Mayfair's most iconic nightspot?Tara Palmer-Tomkinson became a Bond girl, Jack Nicholson and Prince Andrew partied and Mick Jagger hid his affair with Jerry Hall at celeb hangout Tramp that now faces uncertain future
www.dailymail.co.uk,
November 2, 2023
Tramp, a wealthy, popular, and royal playground, has closed suddenly, and it seems that it has been illegally sold. After members of a £1,000 yearly subscription received an email advising them that the club has been canceled, a byword for nocturnal overindulgence, inebriation, and sinking into sensual dissatisfaction in Mayfair seems to be uncertain. Johnny Gold, the club's legendary Founder, opened the club on December 18, 1969. Mick Jagger was a founder member of the First Night, and hellraisers Peter Sellers, Michael Caine, and Richard Harris were with him on the opening night. Tramp became a film and rock 'n' roll celebrity overnight. When in London, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Marlon Brando, and Charlton Heston were all regulars. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor will both be able to pass by. On one night, three James Bonds, Roger Moore, Sean Connery, and George Lazenby were all in the club having dinner at the same time, which was Tramp's pulling power. Jack Nicholson French-kissed a tramp outside the club's unassuming entrance on Jermyn Street one night. Keith Moon, the Who's legendary drummer, had a penchant for removing all of his clothes and dancing naked. He was barred from removing a crystal chandelier on one occasion, but after his chauffeur returned with £500, he was allowed back 48 hours later, naked and strapped to his iconic white Rolls-Royce's bonnet before bursting away at dawn. George Best was at Tramp. Best once punched regular Sir Michael Caine on a night when the footballer appeared to muscle in on Bill Wyman's birthday, when the footballer uninhibitedly turned up with almost a dozen women in tow. In fact, it was reported that girls dressed up for Annabel's nearby Tramp and then they erupted for Tramp. Tara Palmer-Tomkinson was assured of her entry when she turned up in nothing more than a bikini under an open fur coat for her 21st birthday party.
How Michael Gambon took over the role of Dumbledore in Harry Potter after Ian McKellen 'refused the part due to an insult'
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 28, 2023
Sir Ian McKellen dropped the part of Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films after Richard Harris was reportedly mocked, allowing Sir Michael Gambon to play the role instead. After Richard Harris, who appeared in the first two Harry Potter films, died in 2002, McKellen was one of the actors auditioned for Professor Albus Dumbledore. Gambon, who died earlier today at the age of 82, went on to play Dumbledore in six of the eight Harry Potter films, beginning with Harry Potter and The Prisoner Of Azkaban in 2004.

He was the son of a seamstress who went on to weave magic on the big screen - as well as spun stories around it. Sir Michael Gambon, who died at the age of 82, had a 60-year film career in which millions of young fans would disagree. He appeared in the Harry Potter series Albus Dumbledore (right). However, Sir Michael had a long line of stage and film credits to his name long before he first picked up a wizard's wand in 2004 following Richard Harris' death in 2004. He received four Baftas for performances in the likes of the The Singing Detective (inset) and Longitude on television, in addition to his three Olivier awards for stage performances, including A Chorus of Disapproval. In 1989's Gosford Park, violent gangster Albert Spica, the Deception, His Wife & Her Lover, and wealthy industrialist Sir William McCordle were among his main roles. In the remaining six films after Harris' death in 2002, he appeared as Dumbledore in the Potter franchise. His reign as the supremely gifted wizard came to an end in 2011, but by then, he had amassed a following of millions of passionate followers. And, although his own life tale was enthralling, the actor was unable to avoid perpetuating rumors about him, including that he was a gifted ballet dancer and had worked in a theatre company with future Pope John Paul II. Schoolgirl, 13, recalls the 'horrifying' moment she tried to rescue four boys from Solihull lake
www.dailymail.co.uk,

A brave schoolgirl has recalled the 'horrible' moment she tried to help four boys who fell into a frozen lake in Solihull over the weekend. Three of the four victims, aged eight, ten, and 11, died after plunging through the ice at Babbs Mill Park, while the fourth, aged just six, is fighting for his life in hospital. Oliwia Szewc, 13, who was visiting a friend on Sunday, said she was desperately pulling tree branches off the boys to help them pull them out, but that they were all too short. When they were brought to land, she and her friend volunteered to help raise their temperatures, while others were 'hoping they'd be alright.' "I was just trying my best to help them or do something for them to float on the surface of the water so they wouldn't drown," she told ITV News on her first thoughts upon landing on the scene. When the boys were pulled out, she said ambulance staff were 'weren't asking for jackets and coats to bring the boys to them,' like, the weather has returned to normal.' I gave my coat to my friend's jacket,' she added. We were just hoping that the boys would be all right. I was able to give up everything just to save one of them. Knowing that one of them is still in hospital is a relief, because I was at least able to help someone. It was just horrible, and I was just clueless because I tried to help but I couldn't, but I couldn't, but I tried my best.'
