Celine, 54, revealed on Thursday that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) - a rare medical condition that causes muscles to tense uncontrollably and leaves sufferers as 'human statues.' In her career, the singer has dealt with a series of tragic blows, beginning with her 16-year-old niece's (bottom left)'s death in 1993, who spent her remaining days in the singer's arms after a bout with cystic fibrosis, followed by her father's death in 2003 (top left). Rene Angelil, her husband-of-22 years, and her brother (bottom right) died of cancer just two days apart, and the My Heart Will Go On songstress suffered another tragic loss in January 2016. In addition, the now-54-year-old has suffered with other health problems over her decades, and she also lost her ability to perform in 2012 after being diagnosed with 'weakness in her right vocal chord.' FEMAIL has taken a look at the many other disasters she has encountered throughout her life as Celine shares the heartbreaking news with the world.
