Early life
Wise was born in Akron, Ohio, and graduated from Garfield High School in 1965 and Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. He is of Romanian descent on his maternal side. He grew up in a religious family; in the past, he went to a Romanian Baptist church in Akron and then moved to a Methodist church.
Personal life
Since 1978, Wise has been married to his partner, film director Kass McClaskey. They have two children together: Gannon McClaskey Wise, a writer and writer who was born in 1985, and Kyna Wise, a daughter who is also an actor and a singer, have two children together. Wise was previously married to actress Juliet Burr from 1974 to 1977, before her divorce in 1977.
Career
Wise is best known for his role as Laura Palmer's father, Leland, in Twin Peaks. Wise appeared as attorney Jamie Rollins in the soap opera Love of Life for seven years and almost 950 episodes in the late 1960s and 1970s. In the pilot episode of Catherine Chandler's "Beauty and the Beast," Wise played Tom Gunther, Catherine Chandler's boyfriend. Wise has appeared in science fiction in addition to Twin Peaks. In the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Who Watches the Watchers," he appeared as Liko in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Hope and Fear."
