Vietnam's use of the death penalty has been thrust into the spotlight after a real estate tycoon was on Thursday sentenced to be executed in one of the biggest corruption cases in the country's history (inset). Vietnam and its communist government is famously secretive about its state-sanctioned executions. But while there is a lack of data, rights groups believe the country to be one of the world's biggest executioners. Data published in 2017 by Vietnamese media outlets - that had previously been classified - revealed 429 people had been executed between 2013 and 2016, revealing the sheer scale of the death penalty's use in the country. This put it behind only China and Iran in its use of state executions. Here, MailOnline looks at Vietnam's use of the death penalty.

Duck Dynasty, A&E's reality television series, premiered in 2012 and sparked a lot of curiosity in the Robertson family's bizarre lives. Maybe it was the men's matching long beards, or perhaps it was their urban lifestyle and a strange obsession with hunting, but something about them resulted in millions of people around the world eagerly watching each episode for 11 seasons. As they ran a multi-million dollar duck call empire that was started by Phil decades earlier, patriarch Phil, his wife, Marsha 'Miss Kay,' and their four children, their spouses, and multiple grandkids were followed by the show. Phil's family was quickly swept into fame, with many left in awe of the burgeoning business man and newfound reality phenomenon. On the show, the self-made entrepreneur was portrayed as a dedicated family man and a devout Christian, but the virtuous image he worked so hard to create would eventually come to an end. In upcoming film The Blind, which will debut in theaters on September 28, 2023, the Robertson's rise and fall from grace is now being retold. And as the world braces for the new film, FEMAIL embarked and recalled Phil's rollercoaster ride from poverty stricken boy to shaming reality star.

The company has a tradition of anti-LGBTQ policies, but under new leadership that champion diversity and inclusion, the organization has undergone a cultural shift in the last few years. The chain began celebrating pride in 2018 by launching a unique rainbow rocking chair, which they've displayed every year since. This year's essay has caused a backlash among conservatives and LGBT allies.
