Peter Hook Life

Peter Hook (born Peter Woodhead, 1956) is an English singer, composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer.

He is best known for his contributions as the bassist and co-founder of English rock bands Joy Division and New Order.

Hook used the bass as a lead instrument, often playing melodies on the high strings for a signature heavy chorus effect.

He'd do this in New Order, noting the original basslines to keyboards or sequencers.

This has been cited often as a defining feature of the New Order sound. Hook formed the band in 1976, which would then become Joy Division with Bernard Sumner.

Following the death of lead singer Ian Curtis in 1980, the band reformed as New Order, and Hook performed bass with them until 2007. Hook has released one album with Revenge (One True Passion), two albums with Monaco (Music for Pleasure and Monaco), and one with Freebass (It's a Beautiful Life).

He is currently the lead singer and bassist for Peter Hook and the Light.

Personal life

Hook and Stephen Morris were questioned as suspects in the Yorkshire Ripper case in 1979. The Joy Division's touring schedule coincided with Peter Sutcliffe's movements, which resulted in police suspicion. Following gigs in Halifax, Huddersfield, Leeds, and Manchester, Hook and Morris were questioned.

He has two children from his first marriage with Iris Bates, son Jack, and Heather. He married comedian Caroline Aherne in 1994, but his affair ended in 1997. He continued to say that it had been a turbulent, violent, and abusive marriage after Aherne's death. Rebecca Jones was subsequently married by him. He has a daughter with her. In 2015 and again in 2018. Jack toured as bassist for the Smashing Pumpkins.

During the graduation of the university's creative art students, Hook was given an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Central Lancashire.

After a 'iconic' Ian Curtis mural was painted over with a commercial for his new album, Aitch was left 'fuming.'

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 23, 2022
After an advertisement promoting his latest album was painted over a mural late musician Ian Curtis, Rapper Aitch said he felt like the "most hated person in Manchester." The Joy Division frontman's mural, which was painted on the side of a building in Manchester's Northern Quarter, was installed in 2020 as part of a mental health campaign. Last Tuesday, it was seen being painted over. After an outpouring of rage, Aitch became aware of what happened the next morning and was'getting this set pronto.' The musician, who released his debut album 'Close to Home' on Friday, said he was left 'fuming' at the mix-up and promised to have the situation 'fixed pronto.' He expressed his displeasure with Mr Curtis and "what the mural stands for," as well as himself. The rapper went from having a 'good week' to being the'most hated person' in his neighborhood,' according to him.
