Paul McGuigan Life

Paul Francis McGuigan, born 9 May 1971, better known by his nickname Guigsy (pronounced "Gwigzee") or Guigs, is an English musician and one of the founding members of the British rock band Oasis.

From 1991 to 1999, he was the group's bassist.

Personal life

McGuigan, a lifelong Manchester City FC supporter, is an avid sports fan and is an avid fan of football. "Watching football is my favorite pastime," he told Rolling Stone in 1996. Watching football, watching football videos, learning about football, and discussing football. That's about all I'm worried about. After "cricket, Doctor Who, weed, and Man City," Noel Gallagher said in the 2016 film Oasis: Supersonic, McGuigan's top priorities after "cricket, Doctor Who, weed, and Man City."

McGuigan is best known for his encyclopaedic knowledge of football and cricket. During a BBC Radio 1 interview in 1995, he named FourFourTwo as his favorite magazine. When he was still with Oasis, he co-wrote a book with journalist Paolo Hewitt about football player Robin Friday, titled The Greatest Footballer You Never Saw.

Paul McGuigan Career

Career

McGuigan formed The Rain in the late 1980s, with Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs on guitar, Chris Hutton on lead vocals, and Tony McCarroll on drums. McGuigan invited Liam Gallagher, a former pupil of Hutton's, to join on vocals after Hutton was dismissed. Noel, Liam's brother, later joined the band as both a guitarist and the primary songwriter, at which point they changed their name to Oasis. McGuigan's bass lines were only performed by Noel on the band's first two albums, despite being a functional bassist onstage. Despite a rumor that McGuigan did not play bass on Certainly Maybe and that Noel replaced him on his and Bonehead's parts, the band's producer Owen Morris denied it. McGuigan, as with the other band members, admitted to smoking a lot of weed while touring.

McGuigan left Oasis in 1999 and was replaced by then-former Ride frontman and guitarist Andy Bell as bassist. McGuigan was fired via fax and blocked phone calls from the band in the ensuing weeks, according to Noel. Though Noel eventually gave up attempting to reach McGuigan, he says he has no grudges. McGuigan appears on occasion as a DJ. He declined to appear in the 2004 Definitely Maybe DVD, although a polite letter advising his motivations for doing so appears as a mystery extra, and there is also a brief segment in which pundits discuss him. He declined to be filmed for the 2016 Oasis: Supersonic film, but an archive photograph of him was used instead.

"I just played up and down the top string of the bass when I first started," McGuigan said of his playing style in 1995. Come to think of it, that's what I do now."

Gene Gallagher weighs in on THOSE Oasis reunion rumours as he supports his famous father Liam on tour

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 4, 2024
Gene Gallagher has revealed he doesn't think an Oasis reunion could ever 'work', after it was rumoured the famous band could get back together. The musician, 23, is the son of Liam Gallagher, 51, and the nephew of Noel Gallagher, 57, but the brothers have not spoken in years amid a massive feud. The Wonderwall hitmakers - which were also made up of Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan and Tony McCarroll - split in 2009 following a backstage bust-up between the brothers.
