CHRISTOPHER STEVENS reviews last night's TV: Mel's jokes are all a bit wooden

CHRISTOPHER STEVENS: Few things are more forlorn than half a double act. One comedian is so much less than two. Since his partner Eric Morecambe's death, dear old Ernie Wise was a lost soul. Little Ern had funny bones in him before, but he soon became a spectacle of pity, limiting himself to doing the panto rounds at Christmas. Mel Giedroyc (pictured) was always the better half of her double act with Cambridge Footlights partner Sue Perkins, but she has lost her own as Handmade: Britain's Best Woodworker (C4) is just too specific.

Exclusive INTERVIEW - BY SAMI MOKBEL: Ben Odeje's story is one of nationality, admiration, and, eventually, recognition. The 67-year-old (pictured) tells a harrowing tale of a man who asked people if people still lived in trees in Africa as he returned home after a humiliating loss in the 1970s. The racial insinuence was too numerous to mention.' Odeje tells Sportsmail that it wasn't always a free-for-all. 'Even the people supposed to be looking after you, the coaches, and your coworkers referred to you as chalky or sambo.' 'The people who are supposed to be on your side were often the biggest perpetrators.' You're trying to fight it, but there is nowhere for you to go.' The issue of bigotry is as relevant as ever, though parents are much more open to their children's participation in football than ever before.

The FA's Leadership Diversity Code is chosen as one of UEFA's education courses

Since being integrated in one of UEFA's top education programs, the Football Association's historic Leadership Diversity Code has seen a major boost. The code, which was introduced nearly two years ago, was designed to encourage clubs to make diverse appointments within England's top positions by setting recruitment goals rather than quoting numbers. With the code's control body now preparing the second year's results, all 20 Premier League clubs have signed up.
CHRISTOPHER STEVENS on last night's TV

CHRISTOPHER STEVENS: Unlike the amateur contestants on the main series, the majority of the Celebrity MasterChef (BBC1) line-up doesn't know one end of a blender from the other. We're supposed to believe that the celebs who make aprons spend all their free time in the kitchen. The truth is that some of them will not know how to open a Pret pre-packaged sandwich. They'd have to hire their personal assistants to do it.
