Paco Rabanne Life

Francisco Rabaneda Cuervo (born 18 February 1934), more commonly known as Paco Rabanne (French: [pako raen]; Spanish: [pako ra.an] is a Spanish fashion designer who became well-known as a pioneer of the 1960s French fashion scene.

Early life and education

Rabanne was born in Pasajes, Basque province, on February 18th, 1934. During the Spanish Civil War, Francoist troops executed his father, a Republican Colonel. Rabanne's mother was chief seamstress at Cristóbal Balenciaga's first couture house in Donostia, Basque Country, and after opening Balenciaga in Paris in 1937, despite the Spanish Civil War. Rabanne made fashion sketches for Dior and Givenchy, as well as shoe sketches for Charles Jourdan in the 1950s, but he then took up a job with France's top reinforced concrete designer, Auguste Perce, who worked there for more than ten years.

Paco Rabanne Career

Career

He began his career in fashion by designing jewelry for Givenchy, Dior, and Balenciaga, and then founded his own fashion house in 1966. His metal couture and outlandish, flamboyant designs were made from unusual fabrics, such as metal, paper, and plastic. He presented "Manifesto: 12 unwearable dresses in modern fabrics" on the debut of his namesake brand in 1966.

Rabanne is best known for Jane Fonda's green costume in the 1968 science-fiction film Barbarella. Françoise Hardy, a huge fan of Rabanne's designs, was a huge fan of the style. Mylène Farmer, a singer, had Rabanne do her live-concert stage costumes for Tour 1996 and the resulting Live à Bercy.

He began collaborating with fragrance firm Puig, which resulted in the company's advertising of Rabanne's fragrances. The company established a perfume factory in Chartres, France, in 1976. Despite heavy advertising and a strong local presence, his men's perfume brand registration was canceled due to a court decision that the brand was never truly present in Brazil in the 1980s. Because the Puig's local distributor was smuggling perfume into Brazil, the company was not able to provide proof of import payments. In Brazil, his brand name was taken six to seven years.

Paco Rabanne is known for his eccentric remarks on television.

He claims he has lived many lives, including that of a prostitute in Louis XV), to have heard God three times, to have been visited by extraterrestrials, to have murdered Tutankhamun and be 75 years old.

He reported in 1999 that after investigating other conhecies, he came to the conclusion that the Mir space station was going to crash in France, killing thousands of people in Paris and the Gers region. If Mir does not crash into Paris on August 11, 1999, he expressly promises not to make any more predictions. However, he claims to have seen the Virgin Mary apparition, urging him to keep the predictions.

Despite the failure of this latest coup, which tarnished his reputation in the public and media, he continues to appear in a specialized newspaper more focused on his so-called paranormal experiences than those of haute fashion.

Glamorous stylist, 54, locked in bitter legal battle with Notting Hill property guru neighbour after 'dust from his building work spoiled her £14,000 designer bag collection'

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 27, 2024
Maria Serra is suing her neighbour David Harvey for more than £265,000 over claims he created disastrous 'dust ingress' in her flat while having an extension built, making her home 'uninhabitable'. Ms Serra, 54, who describes herself as 'an international fashion stylist and creative director', also says her £570,000 flat was damaged by the works. She is now suing downstairs neighbours - high end estate agent Mr Harvey and his wife Katherine - to cover damages she says she suffered, including the cost of replacing or restoring her collection of 26 vintage handbags from designers including Chanel and Paco Rabanne. But lawyers for the couple are denying the building works caused 'dust ingress' to Ms Serra's flat and have slammed her massive damages claim as 'frankly absurd'.
