Fury over long National Gallery queues after liquid ban sparked by Just Stop Oil eco zealots

The new rules were introduced on Friday after protests in which John Constable's The Hay Wain, Diego Velazquez's Rokeby Venus and Van Gogh's Sunflowers were targeted by Just Stop Oil activists. Pro-Palestinian activists from the group Youth Demand also pasted over Pablo Picasso's Motherhood in October in protest at the sale of arms to Israel . Tougher guidelines now state that 'no liquids can be brought into the National Gallery, with the exception of baby formula, expressed milk and prescription medicines'. However Just Stop Oil managed to gain access to the Gallery and unfurl a banner to demand the release of two activists who were imprisoned for throwing soup at Van Gogh's Sunflowers painting in 2022. Some people have had to queue for over an hour to get in, with those unaware of the rules having to empty their water bottles outside. One visitor, Nina, said the queues were 'worse than airport' security, stating 'I'm a member but I may not be after this'.

Pablo Picasso's daughter said her father is 'uncancellable' despite a long history of 'womanising' and allegations of stealing from African culture. In a new interview with The Telegraph, Paloma Picassso, 75, who is the only surviving child of the influential artist, insisted that her father cannot be cancelled, despite some criticisms made of him now. Paloma, who is a jewellery designer and business woman, spoke fondly of her late father, despite their fraught relationship which left them estranged at the time of his death in 1973. Since Picasso's death, there has been mounting criticism directed towards the artist, who was famously fond of women and was thought to have a particular interest in younger women.

Forget France's 'heroic' World War Two myth, remember the shameful reality: Paris surrendered without a shot, Jews sent to death camps and the most brutal savagery between countrymen

Until this moment, the lanky man in khaki had been just a voice on the radio, beamed in from London . Now the 6ft 5in figure was the embodiment of victorious France as he towered over his compatriots in the sweaty, ecstatic throng packed into the Hôtel de Ville on the banks of the Seine. General Charles de Gaulle rarely showed emotion, but he swallowed hard on that day of wild celebrations, Friday, August 25, 1944, before he described the ordeal from which the City of Light had just emerged. Paris had been 'outraged... broken... martyred'. But now, he continued triumphantly, it was 'liberated. Liberated by itself! Liberated by its people with the help of the armies of France, with the help and assistance of the whole of France, of that France which fights, of the only France, the true France, the eternal France!'.

Dmitry Rybolovlev, 57, started amassing an art collection and invested about $2 billion in 38 works, ranging from Leonardo da Vinci to Pablo Picasso. He depended on Yves Bouvier, a Swiss art broker, to assist him with negotiations and contracts. Bouvier is accused of buying the artworks first and then reselling them to Rybolovlev, earning him around $1 billion per month. Sotheby & Co. is now defending itself in Manhattan court, saying it was unaware of Bouvier's wrongdoing. Leonardo da Vinci's 'Salvator Mundi,' one of the most famous depictions of Christ, is one of the four masterpieces on display in this week's historic trial.

Nevertheless, a surprising amount of land is included in the 31 designated areas of the Shipping Forecast.
