This is the third of five essays published by MTV News this week to celebrate our 2022 Albums of the Year. See the first and second illustrations.
Bad Bunny's fourth studio album, Un Verano Sin Ti, brought the world the summer soundtrack, but he stressed that pop music is not limited to the English language. The Puerto Rican superstar embraced the sounds and rhythms of the Caribbean while simultaneously pushing reggaeton music into a new and exciting direction on 23 sun-kissed tracks. In comparison, he smashed records throughout the year while still singing in Spanish with his Boricua slang. He also highlighted causes that were close to his heart with his work as this year's most global pop icon.

Bad Bunny Held Up His Moon Person For All Yankee Stadium To See

Bad Bunny's "Tot Me Preguntó" found real grace (and power) in how it captures the mundane in an age where music videos must seem more like films in order to capture the event's zeitgeist. Not to say that roaming around New York City's bodegas, barber shops, and block parties is anything like normal, but that Benito's caliber, as well as daily gallivanting and celebrating looks cinematic.
As such, when he converts it to a live performance stage, as he did on Sunday night at the 2022 VMAs, the result is likely to be larger-than-life. Of course, Bad Bunny was not on the stage at the Prudential Center at all, but rather along the Hudson River in The Bronx, turning the baseball field into his playground, complete with palm trees and Puerto Rican flags hanging above him. The performance was part of his tour stop at the stadium, but it had special choreography reserved solely for the VMAs. It isn't even bigger than that.
Bad Bunny's Spanish-Language Songs Have Broken A Chart Record

On the Billboard charts, Bad Bunny is causing a lot of buzz and making history. This week, the Puerto Rican superstar's four songs appear on the Top 10 of the Hot 100, all in Spanish, marking the first time two or two all-Spanish-language songs have been ranked together on the chart.
Billboard, along with the news that seven of his songs from his latest album, Un Verano Sin Ti, are charting on the Global 200 today, which is also a newspaper on Sunday. Naturally, the album is also ranked at No. 1 in the United States. The Billboard 200 chart has a 1 on it.
