Have been working more than a year now with a co-writer on a new screenplay, which I hope to make into a feature next year. #Nuclear distribution still not clear. Meanwhile, I can only say I’ve been very uneasy with this world situation. I never saw this hard-ass #JoeBiden side in the 2020 election. I was wrong, as many of you have chided me. I thought he was more mature and past this thinking. But he’s clearly imperiling the entire order of things. It’s terrifying that neocons like Victoria Nuland and Jake Sullivan and the New American Security think tank have so captured his mind. How cool a chess move it must’ve seemed to push the Russians into a corner like this. Did Joe ever think through the consequences? Does he really believe that the U.S. can still dominate a unipolar world, becoming enemies with #Russia and #China? But #DonaldTrump, in his adoration of “America First” and his thirst for power and violence, does not provide me an alternative. As in 2016 when I voted for Jill Stein, I see little to choose from politically in this environment where media is heavily censored and criminally neglecting the other side’s point-of-view. My country is in a cul-de-sac. No exit. We so need a JFK more than ever. But where is he/she? Depressed. Eve Ottenberg below is on the mark. https://www.counterpunch.org/2022/10/28/the-military-industrial-media-complex-strikes-again/ Posted by @officialoliverstone on Nov 2, 2022 02:17PM

See enclosed Edward Curtin essay, and remember the sadly prophetic words of playwright Harold Pinter in 2005 in his Nobel Prize address. The ‘madness’ is spreading. http://edwardcurtin.com/only-adult-children-still-believe-u-s-propaganda/ Posted by @officialoliverstone on Oct 4, 2022 08:53PM

“Godard est mort!” -- that was the shocking finality of the text I received the day of his death from a French friend. Like a graffiti scrawl, “God is dead!” or “Z lives!”. Yes, he was an institution to many of us -- an alternative way of thinking about life. I saw him once around 1982 -- fittingly in a brasserie on the Champs Elysées, in the daytime, trying to pick up a young woman who looked like all the women in cafes in his films. On my list of favorites of all time are “Breathless,” “Pierrot le Fou” (12 times), and “Le Mépris”/“Contempt.” Rest in peace, Jean-Luc, you shook up the world. #jeanlucgodard Posted by @officialoliverstone on Sep 16, 2022 07:08PM

We had a wonderful showing of our #Nuclear documentary at labiennale last Friday afternoon. A near-capacity, 1000+ audience sat through a 2:30 PM screening, which looked remarkable in 4K with the sound system they have there. The cheering went on for some ten minutes. It was the warmest welcome -- in keeping with the Italian love of films. Good reviews for the most part from those who share positive feelings for a solution -- not more pessimism. Those, of course, who insist on shooting the messenger are missing the point here. Whatever my politics or feelings, what matters most is the continuation of our civilization. Prejudging without seeing is one of our worst sins, and as a filmmaker, it’s easy to be discouraged, especially when it comes to #climatechange. This is a crucial film that goes through the worst horrors of this problem and comes out the other side with positive news. I hope it will be seen as widely as possible. For this alone, it’s special. We’re now going about the business of finding the right distributors around the world. Follow-up news will be coming. Posted by @officialoliverstone on Sep 16, 2022 07:02PM

I’m proud to finally announce that #Nuclear, my latest documentary, will premiere at labiennale on September 9th. I’ve been working on this for almost two years with the enormous help of Joshua Goldstein, coauthor of “A Bright Future.” By now, I’m sure you know that this is an argument in favor of nuclear energy as the realistic solution to the gulf we now face in the production of clean energy for our continuing existence here on the planet Earth. This is an energy that will not only save the planet but allow us to thrive upon it. And although it’s long regarded in popular culture as dangerous, it is, in fact, far safer than coal, oil, or gas. The documentary, at 1-hour-45-minutes, gets into the details but doesn’t sink into all the petty arguments that the anti-nuclear crowd throws at it. Renewables like wind and solar work to a limited degree, but by now, we should know they don’t come close to fixing the problem alone -- which is why the fossil fuel companies support renewables. Because they inevitably require large amounts of methane gas to ensure their reliability. I believe this is the greatest story of our time. We must use science and our brains to overcome this ultimate challenge given to us by nature. We’ll be making the film more and more available on domestic platforms as we get closer to its release. #nuclearenergy #climatechange #VeniceFilmFestival Posted by @officialoliverstone on Aug 3, 2022 05:32PM
