Nyanda Janelle Thorbourne, better known by her stage name/mononym Nyanda, is a Jamaican-American recording artist and songwriter from Kingston, Jamaica.
Nyanda is a member of the R&B/Reggae duo Brick & Lace, whose debut album, Love Is Wicked, was released by Geffen / Kon Live in 2007 and featured the chart-topping track "Love Is Wicked." Early life
Nyanda Thorbourne was born in Kingston, Jamaica, to an African American mother and a Jamaican father. Tasha, Nailah, and Candace Thorbourne are three sisters. Nyanda began attending Campion College High School, during which time her clique Brick & Lace was established. Career
Nyanda's career in music began as a member of the pop/reggae group Brick & Lace. Akon debuted Love Is Wicked, the band's debut album on Konvict Muzik / Geffen Records in 2006. "Never Ever," "Get That Clear," "Bad to di Bone," and their biggest hit, "Love Is Wicked," was available in seven different charts for 97 weeks.
Nyanda's career as a solo artist began in February 2013 with the debut of her promotional single, "Trouble." "Trouble," a Black Lion production, is a remix of Taylor Swift's multi-platinum hit "I Knew You Were Trouble," which blends reggae, dancehall, and pop music. In Week 7 (2013), "Trouble" made it into the top 30 Urban Club Charts in the United Kingdom and stayed in the top 30 for seven weeks, peaking at No. 61. 15.
"Slippery When Wet," Nyanda's first official single, was first released as a free download on SoundCloud on March 8, 2013. In Week 27 (2013), "Slippery When Wet" debuted on the UK Music Week's Urban Club Charts and remained in the Top 30 for five weeks, peaking at No. 102. 13. Cloud 9 (Benelux), Magic Records (Poland & Bulgaria), and Tropic Electric / InGrooves (Rest of the World) licensed and officially released it later this year. At the 2014 Lipstick Radio's Best Reggae Song, "Slippery When Wet" received the award for Best Reggae Song.
Nyanda's "Cool & Deadly" was released by the electro fueled house album in August 2013 with South African DJs Euphonik and Fresh. In 2013, "Cool & Deadly" was regarded as a South African Summer Anthem, rising to No. 76 in No. Among the South African Summer Anthem. 28 on South Africa Airplay Charts, ranked No. 28. 1 on 5FM's Top 40.
