Norah Irene Flatley, a born in San Diego, California, is an American artistic gymnast.

She fell from elite gymnastics before her senior debut as a prodigious junior.

Early life

Norah Flatley was born in San Diego on March 10, 2000, to Terrence Flatley and Ann McKenzie. She is the youngest of four children.

Anna, one of Flatley's siblings, was a skilled gymnast, and Flatley wanted to join her at the age of four. She enrolled in gymnastics at Salto Gymnastics in Wisconsin. Flatley was both the 2007 and 2009 National TOPS teams, which was naturally gifted. Flatley was both the Level 8 State (WI) and Regional (4) champion for her age group in 2010. In the summer of 2010, her family moved to Cumming, Iowa, in order to train under the tutelage of Liang Chow, the former Olympic balance beam champion. She was named the Regional Champion in 2011 a year later. Flatley was named the individual champion in the all-around, on beam and floor at her first Level 9 Western Championships at the age of 11.

Gymnastics career

For the 2012 competitive season, Flatley has risen to Level ten. She was the state champion and came in second second at Regionals. She competed in her first J.O. in May. Nationals were held in Hampton, Virginia. Grace Glenn, a gymnast from Chow, finished third in the all-around competition with Chow's clubmate Alexis Vasquez and Southeastern gymnast Grace Glenn. Despite this, she took the balance beam championship with a score of 9.725.

Flatley has been accepted into Junior International Elite status. She qualified for the United States Classic in Chicago, placing fourth in the all-around and winning gold on balance beam. Flatley had the highest balance beam score (15.2) of the meet in both senior and junior divisions. Flately scored 112.400 on two days at the 2013 National Gymnastics Championships, finishing fifth overall. Bailie Key also earned silver on balance beam. As a result, she was chosen to the junior national team.

Flatley made her international debut at the City of Jesolo Trophy in Jesolo, Italy, where she appeared for the first time. She was a member of Team USA's gold medalists. She came in third third in the all-around behind Bailie Key and Nia Dennis, and she took home gold on balance beam. She next competed at the Pacific Rim Championships in Richmond, Canada, in April. Whilst on the balance beam, she captured team gold and silver. Flatley came in third place in the all-around, tied with Deanne Soza and behind Jordan Chiles and Dennis at the 2014 U.S. Classic Flatley. Flately competing at the National Championships in August. In the all-around, Jazmyn Foberg and Dennis came in third place. She also earned silver on uneven bars behind Foberg and came fourth on balance beam, placing fourth.

Flatley debuted in the 2015 season as a Junior International Elite. She was a participant in the 2015 City of Jesolo Trophy and helped the USA finish first as a team. She took gold and silver in the all-around and on the uneven bars, behind Laurie Hernandez on each. Flatley missed the U.S. Classic and the US National Championships due to a foot injury.

Flately revealed her verbal dedication to the UCLA Bruins gymnastics program on October 7, 2015, a blog.

Flatley had been preparing for her Senior International debut in 2016, but had to be barred from all sports due to injury. She announced her retirement from elite gymnastics on July 21, 2017 and announced plans to transition to Level 10 for the 2018 season.

Flatley began training at the University of California, Los Angeles, in the fall of 2018.

In every meet of her freshman season, Flatley competed on uneven bars and balance beam. On February 26, she was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. She aided her team in finishing third at the 2019 NCAA Championships by contributing to beam and bars of 9.8875 and 9.9 respectively.

Flatley's regular participation in the uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise lineups was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Flatley sustained an ankle injury while warming up for UCLA's season-opening match against Arizona State, keeping her out of action until the postseason. She returned to the Pac-12 Championship uneven bars lineup, scoring 9.875. She competed in uneven bars and balance beam at regional championships, but UCLA failed to qualify for nationals.

Flatley played in at least three games during every meet of the regular season, including six times in the all-around, despite fully recovered from the previous season's ankle injury.

Flatley only competed on the vault and uneven bars in the regional finals, citing mental stability as the primary reason. UCLA failed to qualify as a team again, finishing just 0.025 points behind the Missouri Tigers in second place. Flatley's all-around score of 39.75 from the regional semifinals pushed her to nationals as a national champion in the all-around.

Flatley came in seventh in the all-around with a score of 39.6 and fourth on the balance beam for a total of 9.9375.

Flatley, who has lost his fifth year of NCAA eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic, had entered the transfer portal following the 2022 National Championships. Flately will join the Arkansas Razorbacks gymnastics team on May 31, 2022, reuniting with former UCLA classmates Felicia Hano and Kyla Ross, who are now the current assistant and volunteer assistant coaches.
