A brave diver has put an end to a two-year hunt for a couple's lost engagement ring after it mistakenly went overboard on a boating trip and they feared it would be lost forever. After several other scuba teams failed to locate it along the riverbed, Nick Richards (left), metal detectorist from Forster on NSW's mid-north cost, and a friend discovered the priceless antique ring missing by Mike and Joanna Vink in Sydney's murky Paramatta River. Mr Richards heard a ping from his metal detector before sifting through 25 cm of muddy sand to reveal the ring after six hours below the surface and a few air tank refills. However, he warned others not to try the same thing for one good reason (right).
