After several injuries plagued seasons with the New York Giants, offensive lineman Nick Gates has departed to NFC East rival Washington, where he has reportedly agreed to a $16.5 million, three-year contract with the Commanders. The commanders' spokespeople declined to announce the news, which had been first reported by NFL Network. In 2021, the 27-year-old Gates sustained a horrific fractured fibula and tibia against Washington, but they have since recovered from the career-threatening injury. Gates made his return to the Giants midway through the 2022 season, starting eight of the final nine games and rotating with Ben Bredeson at left guard.

Nick Gates, the offensive lineman for the New York Giants, is finishing up his incredible return to the sport just a year after suffering a horrific leg injury that made him think he'd see him need an amputation. During the Giants' game against Washington in Week 2 of last season, Gates went down in agony, and the resultant injury kept his leg moving in the wrong direction. Incredibly, after seven surgeries and 13 months of recovery, the 26-year-old has been reinstated to the active roster and is returning to the field.
