She studied music at the Liceu Conservatory, as well as singing with Napoleone Annovazzi, Eugenia Kemény, and Conchita Bada. In 1954, she received a gold medal. She then moved to Basel, Switzerland, where she made her career debut in 1956 as Mim in Puccini's La bohème. She appeared in the Basel Opera house from 1957 to 1959, performing a German repertoire that included Mozart (Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte) and Strauss (Salome) in German, which was particularly useful for her upcoming performances at the Bremen Opera (1959-1962). She appeared in Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride in 1961, alongside Raymond Wolansky, Jean Cox, Paul Schöffler, and others.
