Michael Ilitch Sr. (July 20, 1929-2017) was an American entrepreneur, founder, and owner of Little Caesars Pizza, a multinational fast food franchise.
He formerly owned the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball. Ilitch was at the forefront of Detroit's downtown revitalization efforts; he purchased and restored the Fox Theatre and relocated his corporate headquarters (Ilitch Holdings) there.
He also owned Olympia Entertainment.
He was married to Marian Bayoff Ilitch, the first generation American of Macedonian descent.

Ilitch was born in Detroit in 1929 to Macedonian immigrants Sotir and Sultana Ilitch. His father was a tool-and-die builder.

Business career
Ilitch, a graduate of Cooley High School in Detroit, Michigan, served in the United States Marine Corps for four years.
Ilitch played for four years in minor leagues from 1952 to 1955, and the Detroit Tigers paid him $3,000 if he wanted to play baseball. In the Pennsylvania–Ontario–New York League, Cotton States League, and Florida International League, Ilitch played mostly second base for the Tigers', New York Yankees', and Washington Senators' organizations. Due to a knee injury, he was forced to stop playing.
Ilitch founded a pizza company in 1959 after leaving baseball. The Ilitches opened Little Caesars Pizza Treat in Garden City, Michigan, with the help of his wife, Mariana. The family's businesses remain privately owned as of 2017. The Ilitches established Ilitch Holdings, Inc. in 1999 to provide their diverse businesses with professional and technical assistance, and they also held the positions of chairman and vice chairwoman. According to reports, the total earnings for these companies in 2007 exceeded $1.8 billion.
