Michele Ferrero (26 April 1925 – February 15, 2015) was an Italian billionaire businessman.

Ferrero SpA, Europe's second-largest confectionery firm, was he founded Ferrero SpA, which he acquired from his father's humble bakery and café in Alba, Piedmont.

Nutella was his first big success when adding vegetable oil to the traditional gianduja paste to make the popular dish.

Michele Ferrero was born in Dogliani on April 26, 1925, the son of Pietro Ferrero, who established the Ferrero company, and his partner Piera Cillario.

Personal life

Ferrero married Maria Franca Fissolo in 1962 and they had two sons together, Giovanni Ferrero and Pietro Ferrero Jr.

He was a zealous Catholic. Ferrero visited the Lourdes shrine each year, and Madonna was included in every factory and office. Ferrero died on February 14th, 2015, at his Monte Carlo, Monaco home. He was 89.

Giovanni Ferrero and Pietro Ferrero Ferrero, both his sons, co-led the company from 1997 to 1999. Giovanni became the sole CEO after Pietro died in a South African crash on April 18, 2011.
